Farm Girls Sunbonnet Sue & Hannah with the Doll Stroller .... Vintager Things Thursday

This is one if my favorite times of the week..Vintage Things Thursday. I love and cherish my vintage things..and seem to have a love for all things vintage. As you know by now, Sunbonnet Sue in any form is a favorite of mine, along with egg cups, thimbles, quilts, linens, chichen scratch, sewing things..patterns, dishes and the list goes on. Maybe because it was a gentler time.."back in the day". So come along with all the vintage participants..lets go over to Suzannes at
http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/
and see the lovlies everyone has gathered together. I can't wait..

Here we find our sweet little farm girls, Sunbonnet Sue and her best friend Hannah taking their baby dolls and their baby doll buggy over to visit two more bestest friends..May and Molly. At May's house, they are going to be allowed for the first time to help with the "bigger girl" chores. Today, they will be allowed to help churn butter. Now they know that butter is used for everything thats good, cause every southern girl knows that butter makes everything better..so they're quite anxious to help. May's mother is going to bake tea cakes and the girls can smear the brand new fresh chilled butter all over their tea cakes..and you know, it doesn't get any better than this.

Well, when the girls get to May's house, and get their baby dolls setteled comfortably, the work of churning butter begins. May's mother has a small stool for the girls to stand on when it's their turn to churn. She explains to them that once the churning is started, it must be done just so to make it the very best..and so they began to churn their butter from the good rich cream. Each girl took their turn..and finally it was time to take the butter out. When the butter was all out of the churn..it was put into these things..and smoothed with one of these funny spoons.

This, May's mother explained was a butter smoothing spoon.. It's used to help press and get all the whey from the good fresh butter. Now usually she said, the butter would be put into a square mold and she showed it to them. But today she said, for the tea cake party..she had a butter mold spoon that was just beautiful..and thats what they would use. She showed the girls how to put the butter in and smoosh it to get all the whey and water out...and the she quick put it on some ice to chill.

And then , came another surprize. May's mother had a tiny butter mold..called a butter stamp..it's for butter pats.. Isn't it just the cutest thing you've ever seen..and so pretty. So mother made the girls some of these as well.

Finally everything was ready. Mother had finished the butter for the girls, the tea cakes were warm from the oven...and there was even lemonade. The girls took their baby dolls out under the big shade tree, where the swing was..and there they had their little tea party. What great fun !!. For their next adventure..Hannah's mother will help them make corn shuck dolls. Won't that be fun???

Chicken Scratch & Potholders .... Vintage Things Thursday

It's time again for Vintage Things Thursday. I always enjoy the time spent on Thursdays, looking at all the wonderful vintage things and collectable.
So, lets all skedaddle on over to
Coloradolady and see what everyone is showing today. I've seen some beautiful things and can't wait to see more...:)

We begin with a McCalls craft pattern that includes table runners, place mats, napkins..potholders,pillows, aprons and curtains.....all with gingham and gingham stitch/chicken scratch embroidery. I remember some of these things so well.. back in the day, it seems as though everything had a special touch, whether it be embroidery, crochet or tatting....It was a very good time.

This McCalls chicken scratch/gingham stitch pattern is dated 1962. I think my favorites on here are the teapot..and the coffeepot..

I love, love, love these patterns for potholders. I don't believe this pattern is really old..but wasn't able to find date on package.I thought these were just the cutest things ever..and an added bonus is..there is a Sunbonnet Sue Potholder. Yayyyy
I will hafta show ya'll when I get one done....hmmmm, the panties? with the lace may be my first try. Are these panties????? or pantaloons??? or just "long drawers"?? lol

This one is called Stitch-A-Check..and it's a great chicken scratch/gingham stitch pattern book. The copyright is 1961..and it's a really good one. The instructions and patterns are clear and easy to follow...I wish we could all slow down, grab a rocking chair, some embroidery floss..and rock all the problems away..:)

Chinese Wheel Embroidery Book. I believe this is one of the prettiest embroidery patterns ever..and the stitches are basic. Wthe diagrams, anyone can zoom away with the patterns here. This one has a copyright of 1981...It may squeak in as being vintage..

The back cover of the Wheel Embroidery pattern book. Are these not some of the most gorgeous patterns? Now if I could only add more hours to my days...

Last, but not least is the Nosy Dog pattern. I believe it's Patty that loves all doggie things. If so, Patty this pattern is for you..:)

Hi to everyone..it's time again for Blue Monday. I haven't been able to participate for awhile and I've really missed visiting Sally and all the other lovely ladies. So with no further adoo..let's all scamper on over to
at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com/
and visit all the other participants..

I know..it's the wrong season..still though, we find our girl Sue trying on here little witches hat. Sue, Hannah, May, Molly and Katie are always trying on their costumes and play dress up clothes, giving tea parties, making mud pies...and playing in their treehouse. Life is sweet and good for the little ones...it's as it should be.
Still, even though she has on her little witches hat..and her play magic broom and her magic wand..she has on a lovely blue flowered dress..all trimmed in lace. Let's hope the girls don't find any tadpoles to bring home and ruin their pretty dresses..

Pink Saturday .. Happy Pinks !!

It's that sweet time of the week again..Pink Saturday. It's interesting always to see, if I can find still more pink to show..and this week I have. :)
So have all the other participants in this wonderful event..so come along on the pink express and see all the beautiful things. Sweet Beverly is our hostess, and has put in so much work so that we all might have fun. The event is adding members each week and it's taking me a bit longer to get round to everyone, but so far I've been managing to get to everyone,to see all the pretty things...and I' enjoying every minute of it.:)
So join in the fun..and skip on over to Beverly at
How Sweet The Sound....
let's see if we can all visit each blog...

I thought on this Pink Saturday, to show you one of my smallest treasures... mine little egg cup with the pretty roses.. My collection consists of three egg cups..2 are plain white and I love them as well, but this tiny one is just so sweet. Is not sure what the finish is, but it's shimmery, and underneath,is marked Japan. I have it sitting on my desk,I just love it.

Today was such a great day..not only because it was such a beautiful day. Wind was blowing pretty hard, but the sun was shinning and warm. A lovely day... and soon to be made even more wonderful.A lady that knows I collect aprons brought me this one a friend of hers had passed along. Neither lady wears them nor collects...so it was passed to me...and I love it. I've been admiring it all afternoon. It's rather a strange apron with the ties at the neck being quite wide..and it comes to a point at the bottom. The side ties are wide and long..(I like them that way),and the entire top is lined with a soft, soft white lining. The colors are softer than they once were, I think they're even more beautiful this was....Needless to say, I looked it over for the longest time..and then it hit me. The pattern was so large, because in it's previous life..little apron had once been a tablecloth.. Can you tell??? I love my newest apron?? :)

Vintage Things Thursday..Quilt Blocks and Patterns

.

Once again, it's Vintage Thing Thursday..I really like this one. Most of the things I enjoy collecting are vintage. Whether it be crochet books....to hankies, from cookbooks to chicken scratch aprons... from quilt books to quilt blocks to vintage fabric.....and so on. I offer these today and to see what everyone else is offering, click of the Vintage Things Thursday button on the sidebar at top...It will take you to Colorado Lady and the other VTT's. Come join in, you'll have fun.

This little booklet is just too cute.. I've made one of the spoon dolls and started another. Alas, it's as far as I've gotten with that one. I always find more and more things to do..I wish for more hours in the day..

The little Nine Patches above is the simolest of all the quilt patterns.. When I found these and the other quilt patterns to follow, they were in the bottom of a large basket in an antique shop. I was so happy when I found them, I was almost happy dancing. I couldn't believe..I kept dragging out plastic bag after plastic bag. I've never counted all the pieces of each quilt pattern already cut out.. but I can tell you, I was a happy woman. There is plastic bag after bag that's been packaged up. Some, a lot actually, of the fabric pieces are feed/flour sack fabric and some is calico.I love looking at all the tiny pieces and wonder..who was the woman that sat and cut these out? What was she like? Did she love fabric the same way I do??..I really think she did, otherwise she would never have taken the time to cut these tiny pieces..

This is Grandmothers Flower Garden..

This is a Dove At The Window block...

These pieces are for a Puff or Biscuit Quilt..

This is a Sailboat Patten and block...
