Grapes for Hot Mat Covers and Potholders

Materials:
1 ball each green and shaded purple crochet cotton thread
Steel crochet hook No. 7 or 8
3 racks for hot mat covers...( small= 7" diameter, medium = 9", larger = 11" )

Grapes:
Directions are given for small cover and potholders....medium and large size will be given in the parenthesis

With shaded purples ch 8 (10-12), 4 dc in 4th st from hook, drop loop from hook, insert in 3rd st of ch, pull loop through, * ch 3, skip 1 st, popcorn st in next st (popcorn stitch = 5 dc in same space, drop loop from hook, insert in 1st dc, pull loop through), repeat from * once ( 2-3 times) ch 4, turn.
Rnd 2:
Sl st in first loop, ch 3, sl st in same loop,ch 3, sl st in next loop( ch 3, sl st in next loop-ch 3 sl st in next loop,ch 3 , sl st in next loop), ch 3, sl st in same st as last sl st, ch 4, sl st in same loop, ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 3:
Sl st in 1st loop, ch 3,(always counts as part of 1st popcorn st), 4 dc in same sp, drop loop from hook,insert in 3rd st of ch, pull loop through, * ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, repeat fro * 3 (4-5) times, ch 4, turn.
Rnd. 4..
Sl st in 1st loop, ch 3, sl st in same loop, * ch 3, sl st in next loop, repeat from * twice ( 3 - 4 ) times, * ch 3, sl st in same sp as last sl st, repeat from * once, ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 5:
Sl st in 1st loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same sp, *ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, repeat from * 5 (6-7) times, ch 4, turn.
Rnd. 6:
Sl st in 1st loop, * ch 3, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 4 (5-6) times, ch 3, sc in popcorn st, turn.
Rnd. 7:
Ch 3, popcorn st in sc, * ch 3, popsorn st in next loop, repeat from * 6 (7-8) times, ch 4, turn.
Rnd. 8:
Sl st in 1st. loop,*ch 3, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 4 (5-6) times, ch 3, sc in next loop, turn.
Rnd. 9:
Ch 3, popcorn st in sc, * ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, repeat from * 5 (6-7) times, ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 10:
Sl st in 1st loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. repeat from * 4 (5-6) times, ch 1, turn.
Rnd.11:
Sl st in 1st loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same sp, *ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, repeat from * 3 (4-5) times, ch 3, turn.
Rnd. 12..
Sl st in first loop.,* ch 3, sl st in next loop, repeat from * 2 (3-4) times, ch 3, sl st in next porcorn st, ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 13...
Sl st in 1st loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same sp, * ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, repeat from * 2 (3-4) times,ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 14:
Sl st in 1st. loop, *ch 3, sl st in next loop, repeat from * once (2-3 times), ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 15
Sl st in first loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same space, ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, (ch 3, popcorn st in next loop-ch 3, popcorn st in next loop, ch 3, popcorn st in next loop), ch 3, turn.
Rnd. 16
Sl st in next loop, (ch 3, sl st in next loop, - ch 3, sl st in next loop) ch 1, turn.
Rnd. 17
Sl st in loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same space, (ch 3, popcorn st in next loop-ch 3, popcorn st in next st, ch 3, popcorn st in next loop) for small cover ch 1 to tighten st, cut thread.
For medium and large sizes , ch 3, turn.
Next Row..
Sl st in first loop ( ch 3, sl st in next loop ), ch 1, turn..
Next Row:
Sl st in first loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same sp ( ch 3, popcorn st in next loop ) for medium size cover ch 1 to toghten st, cut thread. For larger sise cover, ch 3 and turn.
Next Row:
Sl st into loop, ch 1, turn
Next Row:
Sl st into first loop, ch 3, popcorn st in same sp, ch 1 to tighten, cut thread.

Leaf:
With green ch 9 ( 13-17 ), 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 6 ( 10-14 ) sts of ch, 3 sc in next st of ch, working on either side of ch, work 1 sc in each of the next 5 ( 8-11 ) sts, ch 3,turn, picking up the back loop of sts only throughout, 1 sc in each of the next 6 ( 9-12 ) sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 5 ( 7-10 ) sc, *ch 3, turn, 1 sc in each of the next 6 ( 8-11 ) sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 5 ( 7-10 ) sc, repeat from * 2 (2-4) times, cut thread. Work 2 more sections in same manner. Starting at center st of 3 sc group, sew about 5 sts of each side of each section together.

Stem:
With green ch 24 ( 28-30 ), sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaing st of ch, cut thread.

Tendrils:
With green, work a ch about 3 ( 4-5 ) inches long working tightly, cut thread.
*For large cover also work small bunch of grapes and 1 section only of small leaf. Sew grapes, leaf, stem and tendrils to covers as illustrated..

Edge:
Attach green in any sc, *ch 7, sl st in 4th ch of hook for picot, 2 trc in same sc, skip 3 sc, sl st in next sc, repear from * all around, cut thread.

Casing:
With wrong side of cover toward you, attach white in any free sc of last sc round, *ch 10, skip 7 sc, sl st over next sc, repeat from * all around ending large cover with ch 10, skip 3 sc, sl st in joining.
Next 2 rnds:
Sl st to 5th ch of loop, * ch 9, sl st in next loop, repeat from * all around.
Next rnd:
Sl st to 5th st of loop, * ch 7, sl st in next loop, repeat from * all around, cut thread.

Potholder Basic Pattern for the Grapes and Flowers


Materials:
Crochet thread:
2 balls white
1 ball green
1 ball shaded purple
Steel crochet Hook No. 7
+
Embroidery thread:
4 skeins bright red
1 skein black
1 skein yellow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pot Holder...Front Section:
~~~~~~~~~~~
With white, work 1st 11 rounds same as for grape cover
Rnd. 12:
Work even in sc
Rnd. 13:
1 sdc in each of the next 2 sts, (sdc = thread over hook,insert in st,pull loop through, thread over and work off all loops at one time ),1 sc in next st, sl st in each of next 2 sts, cut thread.

Work another section for back in same manner.

With wrong sides of both sections facing, with green, working through both sections,work same as edge for Grape covers . With green, cover a bone ring with sc and sew to potholder for hanger. This is the foundation for all the potholders..(grapes and flowers)

This is a definate 5 ***** book with the most wonderful patterns possible, and is filled with colorful potholders and hot plate holders. The directions are so well written that a beginner crocheter should be able to work these patterns..with a bit of time and patience...

Blue and White Round Potholder

Materials:
Rug Yarn......1 skein each of blue and white...or colors desired
Aluminum crochet hook size F

With blue, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3 and work 15 dc in ring, join in 3rd st of ch.
Rnd. 2:
Ch 3, dc in same sp, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, repeat from * all around, join in 3rd st of ch, drop blue.
Rnd, 3:
Attach white, sc in same sp, sc in sp before next st, * sc in back(bk) loop of next st, sc in sp before next st, repeat from * all around, drop white, sl st in next st by pulling blue yarn through.
NOTE: ** When changing colors..always pull loop of sl st through with next color...
Rnd. 9:
* Sc in bk loop of next st, sc in next sc, repeat from * all around, working last sc in sl st, do not join.
Rnd. 10:
Working in both loops of sts, increase 1 sc in every 10th st, drop blue, join with white.
Rnd. 11:
Sl st in each st, join, cut yarn. With blue, cover a bone ring with sc, and attach to potholder as a hanger.
With blue, *sc in next sc, sc in bk loop of next sc,repeat from * all around, working last sc in bk loop of sl st, do not join.

Beehive Pincushion in Crochet

Materials Needed:

2.......175 yard ball crochet cotton thread ..yellow for beehive..and colors of choice for flowers
3 pipe cleaners
glue
2 1/4" styrofoam ball
Steel crochet hook # 7

Rnd. 1:
Ch 7, join to form a ring, ch 1, work 8 sc in ring, join with a sl st in first sc

Rnd. 2
Ch 3, 3 dc in same st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 3rd st of ch 3, pull loop through,
*ch 1, 4 dc in next st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 1st dc, pull loop through (popcorn st) repeat from * 6 times, join in 1st popcorn st, sl st in next ch between popcorn sts.

Rnd. 3
Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, * 3 dc in ch 1 between next 2 popcorn stitches, repeat between * all around, join in 3rd st of ch.

Rnd. 4
Ch 3, popcorn st in same st, *skip 1 dc, popcorn st in next dc, popcorn st in next dc, repeat from * all around. Join in 1st popcorn st, sl st in ch between popcorn sts.

Rnd, 5

Flower for Beehive Pincushion..
With color of choice, work the flowers in this manner....
with crochet hook # 5,
ch 8, join in first st of ch, sl st in ring, *1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtrc, 1 tr tr (4 times over hook), 1 dtrc, 1 tc, 1 dc, sl st in ring, repeat from * 4 times...for 5 petals.

Rnd. 2
* Ch 1, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, ch 1, 1 sdc, ch 1, 1 sc in center st., ( sdc ..thread over hook, insert in st., thread over and work off all loops at one time), ch 1, 1 sc in each remaining st of petal, skip sl st, repeat from * all around, join..

Rnd. 3
* Ch 2, sl st between petals, repeat from * all around, cut thread..

Rnd. 4
Attach second color in any ch 2 loop, 2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc over over each ch 2 loop, join, cut thread...

To attach flowers to stems and then to beehive..

pipecleaners or chenille stems... insert one end of chenille stem through one flower and bend to wrong side..glue flower in place. Continue each flower in same manner... attach another chenille stem as shown for thimble. Next fit beehive over styrofoam ball and trim one side of ball to a flat surface.. Attach flowers as shown...
