{ **** Would you believe I did this pattern mine own self...
okay..so it's only an armhole cutout and a pocket.. }
This is first of many planned aprons. Not only do I love making and collecting pincushions, I love collecting aprons....so maybe it's time I tried making some. I have many ideas, however, the very best is the old apron patterns I've collected through the years. I've never been able to bring myself to cut into them..I've always saved them for "someday". Well !!! someday is now..and so I begin.
The simplest of aprons is this...a piece of fabric held up to yourself to make sure it fits..and then cut out an armhole. Take bias tape, go all around edges..and leave long endings for apron ties...it's that simple.... : ).......p.s. this is also the way bottle aprons are made...
I really like this fabric..tho inexpensive at 1.99 per yard, it has Sue and Sam gardening..and I just had to have it. I have the same pattern in other colors....can't wait to begin on them as well.
It's nor showing up well, but the pincushion and the wire flower are both shades of pink.
I'm running way behind this week,so this is a repost.. I'll do better next time.

Happy Pink Saturday, CC!!! Nance of "MY CRAFT LITTLE PAGE" is sharing aprons today, too. I told her that while I can sew, I've rarely made an apron.....and I need to do that, cuz I'm crazy about them too! Thank you for sharing this darling creation of yours!! L, Dana
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, you have a very creative eye. I also love Sunbonnet Sue and Sam, just fantastic. I have also signed on as a follower so I can keep up with you. Take care and keep on those aprons.
ReplyDeleteI am making one too! Mine isn't as well thought out as yours though. Lol I took my apron and traced around it then cut and sewed. Yours looks so great! I collect aprons too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday! Hope your husband is doing well. Love the apron material!
ReplyDeleteWell, I hadn't seen this, so don't apologise! It looks great, and I particularly like that one size literally fits all, lol - it's all in the customising. Can't wait to see the finished result.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother used to have hers made to measure by the local village dressmaker, who was ordered up to the house yearly, with fabric samples etc, and told which designs to use. Hers were amazing, with straps that went over the shoulder and buttoned to the waistband at the back, two really deep pockets and plenty of fabric for a nice big bow.
Happy Pink Saturday!
Clever girl making your own pattern. It is going to be a really pretty apron. Your pin cushion is cute. I have a few old patterns of my grandmas and I need to use a pattern. My grandma would make her own patterns.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday
Oh I love the cute fabric. It looked so sweet and beautiful. The pincushion is very pretty too. Now you make me want to get back to some crafts.

"Do these shoes match this purse?"
I remember the very first apron I made. I think I was in grade 4 or maybe 5, it was made from flour sack and bias tape. And I hand stitched it! :-)It was a project from HOme Ec :-)

Hi CC, we have run the roads all day including dinner and a play for our anniversary. I am just now visiting my pinkie friends.
ReplyDeleteI love you apron idea, I made my own apron just the same way. I biased taped the edges and then made 8 more for our Christmas cookie bake. Everyone had a Christmas apron for the occasion. Including my small grandchildren. I wear mine to this day. The fabric was green and red and I bought a whole bolt of it from a lady at a yard sale for 15.00. I still have quite a bit of it left. I had so much fun. Your fabric is very cute. I know your apron was pretty too.
Thanks for your comment about aunt Shirley. She is my mom's youngest sister. We do love her so.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Love, Jeanne
