I love looking at all the different blogs and their vintage offerings. If you like vintage goodies..skip on over to
Suzanne at Colorado Lady to visit all the ladies and the vintage things.
This is an older Grit quilt pattern..and a really pretty one. The exact age of the pattern..I don't know as I was unable to find a date anywhere on the pattern or package. The postmark is stamped New York,N.Y....and it cost a whopping 4 cents to mail.
This pattern was in a box of other patterns, including a lot of iron on transfers..a couple of nightgown patterns..and what I really wanted..some apron patterns.
Showing a smaller quilt with ruffle. The main quilt has 24 blocks or squares to embroider or paint, using the ball point tube paints. Does anyone remember using those paints?? I sure do My favoorite things to paint was pillowcases and a couple of tablecloths.
oh i love things that are old and tattered. The Butterfly is really beautiful! Im sure someone would love to use that in a mixed media art piece of some kind.
ReplyDeleteHappy Vintage Thingie Thursday! :)

Nice transfer. I noticed that it was sent to some one in my home state, KS. And Wellington was only about 45 miles from my hometown.
ReplyDeleteI remember the paint in the tube. My mom did that for a while.
I would date your transfer in the early to mid 60's because of the postage rate and that they used zip codes which USPS started using in 1963.
Loved your post. Patterns and quilts are right up my alley. I'm playing with some crazy quilting now and that butterfly would go great on a block. Thanks, Ruby
ReplyDeleteyou got a good buy there - love the butterfly :-)
ReplyDeletei always look foward to your VTT posts and i must say you've done it again!!..your vintage transfer patterns are delightful :)
ReplyDeletewonderful transfers--thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the package that the pattern can in and I think the butterfly pattern is very nice..
ReplyDeleteI like the graphic on the envelope of the lady with the yarn balls on her head. What is a Grit quilt, CC?
ReplyDeletePatty..
ReplyDeleteThe Grit was an older publication
thatw as kinda like a newspaper. It had all sorts of information, and patterns, patterns..patterns. You could send away for all sorts of quilt, crochet..etc. patterns and they would be mailed to you. So it's not a Grit quilt..rather a Grit quilt pattern.
Great post this week as usual! Wow, that is a very intricate butterfly pattern...never used the ball point paint tubes-sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm showing embroidery transfers today too :)
Hmmm never heard of a Grit quilt pattern before, thanks for showing & thanks for explaining!

ReplyDeleteGreat butterflies! Don't you wish patterns had dates on them...would make life easier!!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I remember Tri-Chem Liquid Embroidery! My aunt did home shows, and every female relative of mine had a million painted embroidery pieces!
ReplyDeleteI love old transfer patterns. I remember my mom using the tube paint, she did pillow cases.

My grandmothers loved to embroider quilt blocks like the butterflies, but I don't think they ever did this one. They lived just a few miles from Wellington, Ks., too. Let's see more!!!! Sally
