I was finally able to find mom's password for her favorite blog. Cici has been in and out of the hospital for multiple ailments the last few months. She was a very tough lady and fought til the end, but we lost her on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at 7:07pm from respiratory failure. She was on DNR, so no actions were taken to put her on life support as she wouldn't want that. She always talked about the ladies she shared patterns and ideas with here and was very proud of her blog and very proud of all of her friends here. I just wanted to thank each and every one of you that helped make my mom's life even fuller. Her normal email for this site is still open for now and will do my best to respond to all messages.

Happy Pinks and Happy 4th of July

Hopefully,this post will stay on..and I can wish everyone a Happy Pink Saturday and a Happy 4th of July.
Tomorrow afternoon,my son is going to go through my puter and see if he can find what the problem is.
Meanwhile, love and hugs to everyone..and know that Sunbonnet Sue and all her friends ,including me...wish you much love and we send you many hugs. Be safe over the holiday..and enjoy the picnics and enjoy our great country's birthday.

But I know there might be quilters out there that might like it, so I bought it.

Pretty In Pink Tea Sets .... Pink Saturday

It's that magical and wonderful time of the week again..the day Ms. Beverly rings that beautiful pink bell that's decorated with tulle,roses,ribbon, sweet crochet and lace...oh,it's such a beautiful bell and it just shimmers in pinkness. Each time a new pinkie joins the group, magic pink sprinkles are sent to someone, and the sweet faeries that pouf the magic pink sprinkles of love and happiness..they never know it was the pink sprinkles that helped them. But all the pinkies know, the more pink you have, the better it is. Lets all get out and about visiting all the pinkies we can. Just scamper on over to Beverly's place at...................

Fannie Farmer Boiled Custard

Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking School Cookbook,1918

2 cups scalded milk
1/4 cup sugar
yolks 3 eggs
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Beat eggs slightly,add sugar and salt while adding gradually hot milk.
Cook in double boiler, continue stirring until mixture thickens and a coating is formed on the spoon, strain immediately; chill and flavor.
If cooked too long, the custard will curdle; should this happen, by using an egg beater it may be restored to a smooth consistency, but custard will not be as thick.
Eggs should be beaten slightly for custard, that it may be of smooth, thick consistency.
To prevent scum from forming,cover with a perforated tin.
When eggs are scarce, use yolks two eggs and one-half tablespoon cornstarch.

Sunbonnet Sue Mops With Her Puppy .... Redwork/Hand Embroidery

Ahhhhhhhh,here we have little,sweet Sue trying her best to mop her mothers floor.And,hhmmmmmmmmm,
look at the muddy tracks.Who could have done this????? She sees that sweet puppy,sort of hiding behind the door....and points at him and says.."You did this? With your muddy little feet? Well!!!!!,out you go to wipe your feets on the mat on the porch." She sighs and goes back indoors to mop the floor again.
For you see..................................................................................
There is to be a quilting party today. The ladies will be arriving soon.....
the buffet is ready for the wonderful dishes the ladies have made, and mother has made her famous meat loaf with the yummy topping. The meatloaf is good, either hot,lukewarm or cold and Sue likes it so much. She also loves the red beans and ham hocks that Mrs. Avery brings and the collard greens and cornbread that Mrs Crabtree brings.And,of course,there is the good sweet churned butter mother made yesterday. Sue likes to dunk her buttered cornbread into her collard green juice.....yummmmmmmmm She can hardly wait for lunch......

The pretty quilt is already in the frame set up on the screened in back porch. There is shade there,with big trees in the backyard and the breeze coming through is so sweet with the smell of flowers, and cool in the shade..
The quilt pattern sort of reminds Sue of her older sister..Rachel. Rachel is so beautiful with her long hair thats usually done in curls...and she most times wears a bonnet like she,herself does. This quilt has on the blocks, girls with long dresses and big bonnet's, and are so beautiful. Sue looks at it closely, for not only is there applique with beautiful fabrics, it has embroidery and eyelet on it as well. She looks and admires each girl...aand thinks they're all beautiful. But there's one that she likes more than the others. That girl has on a pink gingham dress, the waist had tiny ribbons that tied in back, with a fluffy,pouffy pink bonnet. Both the dress and the bonnet have tiny embroidered roses and rosebuds on them....and both the dress and the bonnet have tiny eyelet ruffles... That's her favorite one, and she plans on asking mother,do they have such fabric......to make a dress and bonnet for her, and she of course, will use it for Sunday's best.
We will leave Sue to her mopping now, and dreaming of that beautiful quilt..and maybe the new dress.

ummmmm 27 I suppose. That's my birthday

3. What is one of your family traditions?
I think it would be the gathering at Christmas with everyone at my house. The same ornaments,with a few new each year,with the mouse on Santa hat always going on first and in the front. He's the first ornament I made...I had cancer,and was given the task of making Christmas ornaments. The idea was to plan for something in the future, to keep moving ahead..to plan on a future...I've made Christmas ornaments ever since..

4. Is there anything you are OC about?
I suppose that would be making sure my doors are locked, and in crafting..with embroidery,knitting or crochet..the stitches must be as perfect as possible. A "funny" or dropped stitch 10 rows back.will be ripped out an redone. I simply can't stand it. With embroidery,the stitching must be as perfect as possible..or out it comes.

5. What is your favorite kind of food?
Chinese first....,then Italian second.....then bar-b-q ribs. ummmmmmmm,ok Maybe ribs are also in the top spot with Chinese

Tea for One Set, China .....Garden Cup and Saucer .... Pink Saturday

It's that sweet,pretty day again..Pink Saturday. Time to get to see all the wonderful,frilly..and just simply gorgeous pink things. This day just kinda makes my week all happy and better. our dear hostess Beverly works so, to bring us all together for a day of enjoyment.... I would like to nominate our own sweet Beverly as The Blogerette Of The Year. Do I hear a second ????? Do I hear a third yay ?????

This little tea cup and saucer is one of a set of two that I happened on. I absolutely love the little pattern...and I'm sure the sweet flower fan shape has a name along with the other tiny flower. It has a teeny gold rim..and a tiny stroke on the handle and a thin gold rim around the bottom. The mark on the bottom says the pattern is China Garden..there is a little bonsai (sp??) tree above the China garden and then made in China. I thought too late to take pictures of the bottoms of both my pictures. *sighs and flicks self on forehead

I found this little sweetie awhile back and almost missed it. I was,of course,as always and as usual,looking for Pyrex. I went on the back aisle for one more look for tiny plates and there it sat. I almost went duh to myself, and I don't mind doing so in private, but public chatting with ones self draws attention. Well, I can tell you,having left one Tea for One set sitting while I looked around (yes,you all know how that had to go)...this one went into the basket. Didn't know who made it, didn't care..it was cute and so the little tea set came home with me.

During one of my last thrift shopping trips, I found several things that I can use for Vintage Things Thursday, which made me quite happy. The thought of not participating with the vintage party goers..I don't want that to happen.
I will start off with an apron that is probably my least favorite apron of them all.
It's a deep blue with black patterned fabric...and a sort of metallic ricrac edging.
*sighs..shhhhhhhh, don't tell little apron and hurt it's feelings. Why didn't I leave it there you say????? You hafta know better than that...I couldn't just leave it there.
Next is watermelon potholders. My husband,having a momentary mean streak running through,had the nerve to ask me "Whatcha gonna do with those?? You don't cook anymore." Uuummmmm, the truth smarts sometime..*another sigh
Next,we have a mini cloche. I haven't a clue what it's original use was for...but all I saw was a cloche. Knowing I have a ton of small plates..I just had to have it. And the cheese dome a bit further down. I wasn't
the only shopper headed for it..but she was further away than me, and so it came home with me.
The little plate I set it on,has these markings on the bottom:

Pink Vine..* I also saw it listed as Red Vine
It has the most wonderful edgeing..kind of a scalloped edge..
I am hoping I can find something with a rose pattern..a small dessert plate for the mini...and I will be searching for a pretty one and the cheese dome as well. I think I would like to make one of the cake plates on the little stands..

Beth Found The Plate Pattern

There are so many wonderful bloggers out there and I feel so blessed when anyone comes to visit and leaves a comment or emails me. It's such great fun to meet and visit with new visitors...and to check on the places I follow to see what everyone has been up to.
Well, as luck would have it, Beth saw the pictures of the plates.........and she went searching as well. Annnddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!! She found what I couldn't. As I said, I had searched and searched,with no luck..and then a great detective came to the rescue.
Hugggggs Beth..if I could happy dance with no pain,I could..but I'll have to save the happy dance for awhile.
The pattern is called Renaissance Brown by English Ironstone. The description is as follows.."Brown border,flowers,birds and scenes".Searching is a bit difficult, because there are other Renaissance patterns out there,by different makers, different companies. I'll keep looking about to see if I can find a price on them and anything else that I can find. But the thing is, I love them..no matter how expensive or inexpensive they are. I just love the brown and the pattern and will be on the lookout for more. Who knows...maybe someday..I'll find some pink transferware. That's I think my favorite,,,ummmmmmm,
well maybe the brown is my favorite.

Brown Transferware??? England, English, Ironstone Small Plates

I'm just now getting round to taking pictures of finds from 3 thrift shopping trips ago. These dishes are quickly helping me to sigh,sob and quit looking. However..not being a quitter..I'm just getting a bit tightly strung....
The only markings stamped down into the back are : England Ironstone English
No other markings that I can see.
It was a good thrifting trip when I found these six little plates that I'm calling Brown Transferware. I loved these sweet little plates, and looked all over for more,
I like ironstone and I like this sweet pattern. There was no more of it to be found,
but all was not lost. I found a baby or mini cloche and a glass cheese dome that can be used as a cloche with a gorgeous plate; two Pyrex bowls, one tiny green casserole and one that has most of the gold color almost removed,. I will show those and the rest of the treasures I found that day.
I surely would appreciate if anyone has a clue about this pattern. Is it transfer ware? I like it,whether it is or not..I would just like to know.
By the way.. I paid 50 cents for each little plate. Now to find more..

What's This ????? A Bat ?????? On Blue Monday ?????

It's time again for Blue Monday...and thanks to Do and her beautiful handbag that she made,I can participate. I know I have more blue around here, but nothing really pretty to post..so I guess that means I get to do more thrift shopping.

Look what flew in from England !!!!! He's got a wicked little grin but I love the handbag he's sitting next to. Ok..so I love him as well. I mean..he is cute. For a bat.And he has a cute smile.And he's been nice ...ummmmmmmm..it's them teeth grandma.
Them things is fangs. Fangs I say....ummmmm. I better keep a closer check on Do. I don't know what she's been up to lately..but I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile I can look at this gorgeous quilted bag she made,and said it was not for me,I mean it's not like I asked..well,ok,maybe I might have asked. But not a lot. I mean, I stopped whining after about 30 minutes. *sighs..She won't let me have the bat either...

Such a Pretty Colonial Lady Transfer

Tonight, I had an email from a lovely lady named Beth. She said she needed a bit of help and we got it all worked out. What she had wanted to do..and she got it done verrrry well, was to scan in an older transfer pattern. You all know how I love older patterns..but wait!!! This was even better. Not only was it an older pattern,..it was of a very sweet Colonial Girl. And she is pretty,pretty....pretty. I can't wait to see how Beth stitches her up. I think I might like her done in redwork on sweet muslin. A tablecloth???? Decreased in size and done on napkins.., Enlarged and appliqued with the addition of a bit of embroidery......

Superior Transfer Design #183 Sunbonnet Sue

This is # 5 in a series of 7 little transfers jam packed in with other stacks of patterns....and I believe 7 is all there was originally. The patterns had been cut apart..and were scattered throughout the stacks of patterns. I have all the ones pictured on the front of the envelope...so I'm sure that all.
Our little Sue seems to be housecleaning and straightening up again. That girl sure keeps a tidy house.But I think when she whacked that birdhouse with the duster, little bird stopped singing and squawked a little bit at her. It was an accident though..Sue would never hurt anyone or anything..she's just so filled with love for everyone..specially her sweet friends...and tadpoles. Don't forget how she loves tadpoles.ummmmm,I do too.
I hope you like little Sue and use her. I just can't stand the idea of wonderful old patterns being lost. I miss the needlework of the past..again,maybe I was born at the wrong time. We say our lives are busy and rushed now, I know I do...and I am. I have more than I can do and at times I want to say..enough, I've had enough.
But if I have enough wits about myself to pick up some handwork, whether ie be embroidery, crochet..applique...any kind of handwork, take a deep breath...and begin my stitching, I relax. It's like a magic tonic. The women that came before us knew this,but we have forgotten. See..think back. If we think a womans life is hard and fast paced now,...go back in time to their lives. Wood stoves, wash pots with fires built under them, water to be drawn, bread to be made, 3 meals a day yo prepare, food to cook and carry to the field, take care of the kids, sew their clothes, see to their upbringjng and schooling, making lye soap, jams and jellies, gardening, canning....and maybe all that with 3 or 4 kids playing in the yard,one baby just walking good and carrying a baby on her hip. And yet at night....she found time to cut tiny pieces of fabric, stitched them together in a manner that pleased her..and made a coverlet or quilt for her family. A quilt of such beauty and tiny stitches, we seek them out today and buy everyone we can find. They took precious pieces of linen, muslin, cloth they had woven with their own hands...and they stitched beautiful flowers,baskets...colonial girls with ruffled dresses, and made table runners,napkins, dresser scarves, and if they were lucky and somehow had velvet and satin..,they made crazy quilts with the most gorgeous stitches and appliques that can be imagined... So, when we think we're too rushed...take a bit of time to stitch something. Who knows, someday it may be a family treasure. And if it'd not...just think of the pleasure you had making it. You didn't need a pill to calm you down or relieve the stress, and you have something beautiful to hold and touch with pride. If you're a beginner, not to worry. You'll get better with every stitch, so don't give up.And, you'll have touched fingertips with the women of our past...and you'll have touched fingertips with the women of our future.
Make something beautiful and gentle for yourself. Hugggggs to everyone..

It's that pretty time of the week again...Pink Saturday. I always look forward to this, ..I think it's a really special time to see so many beautiful things. I enjoy it all..from the sweet to the knock out gorgeous...if it's Pink..it's an attitude and a state of mind...I like it.
The Pink attitude is a strange thing....just to some. I have 2 friends that just won't blog. So I've just given up trying to tell them how much fun it is, how many people you touch and how many touch you. Do from England will never blog,she's loves to quilt and when she talks about quilting and such..you can hear the change in her voice. She loves it so much and is so good at it..,but no blogging for Do.
And just tonight,I was visiting at the store with another friend..she asked what I was doing and I said I was working on Pink Saturday..she gave me this look..*sighs..
I say to her again, you need to start a blog, come join in the fun...the problems seem to fade to the background, rest and relax some. You'll meet the sweetest,
kindest people that you ever dreamed of..., and finally we came to "it".. The why she's shying away from doing anything like this..Very simple, she said she's scared.. She's scared that nobody will come to visit, that no one will comment..that she had no style of writing. I fear at that I paused..I hadn't realized that I needed a style. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy...and because I didn't know I couldn't do it.. I did it. And so much of that attitude,so much of the put myself out there..just so much of getting over shyness and actually leaving comments for others *gasp, and the roof didn't fall on me...So much of that has come from sweet Pink Ladies. You all have given me confidence and comments, you've given me hugs and comments when I've been just down or not feeling well..and now a sweetheart of a Pink Lady has given me this beautiful wonderful gift of roses on china..and the most wonderful gift of all, her friendship..

I wish my pictures did better justice,for I truly believe this is the most gorgeous set I've ever seen......It was a gift from our own Pink Saturday girl.... Betty of She's Sew Pretty. It's time for that great vintage party again..so scoot over to....

OOooooo, I'm so late getting my vintage post up. I was so trying to get it dane, but after standing and taking pictures,then cropping them...I was hurting and had to stop for a bit. I should have been working on this for awhile, because Liz did such a beautiful giveaway, and I was the luckiest woman in Texas when I won.
When the package arrived..it was so heavy with gifts inside...and I'm so afraid I didn't do the justice. For in the big package,there were many smaller packages and boxes. It was like Christmas..and all I could do was sigh and squeal with happiness as I opened each one.
First,there was a tint box with lid that had been made from vintage materials, and inside that was moe prezzies...a tiny porcelain lady and 2 tiny glass knobs..Also inside were skeleton keys and an archetical piece,
And inside other packages was this sweet butterfly dish, vintage cigar labels,........... a beautiful picture made with gorgeous vintage buttons on a velvet background,set in a beautiful frame..next..a gorgeous vintage hat,
beautiful vintage pins and earrings..........and a tiny sweet vintage broom with a velvet top,......there was a beautiful blue wall pocket...and beads, more beads,tiny pearls..and beautiful pink beads,.........nexy, safe in their box was a set of beautiful serving pieces wrapped in their soft blue cases, next was wonderful tiny jello molds......... next came vintage sheet music...and last but not least..came 3 scrumptious Instructor magazines,
dated 1932 and 1933. On the back is such wonderful advertisements. I can't wait to sit and open..and slowly go through them.
Liz..this was a most wonderful giveaway that you offered..and I'm so happy I won. In my heart and mind,I'm still happy dancing, but that stupid fracture won't let me happy dance for real.

Homer Laughlin Small Bowl

I tried my best to show the little bowl enough to see it clearly. Yeasterday,I found this little bowl for 50 cents..and thought Homer laughlin..why not?? Can anyone tell me anything about it? I keep looking .. I know as plain as it is,it has to be very common..
Little bowl is a kinda whitesh cream color..with 1 large and 1 teeny stripe at top and small stripe about 1/2" down from that. I've shown the markings on back.. I'm quite sure it's a modern restaurant type dish and of no value....but for 50 cents, why not get it????
I don't know much about collecting dishes,but I know there are lots that do. All I know is I love Fiesta and Pyrex..but the name of Homer Laughlin and thrift shop is buy it CC ,buy it. :). And so I did.. I passed on a couple of things that I'm kicking myself now for not buying...maybe they will be there next time.
One thing was n early First Aid book...with all sorts of things,I beieve when I looked at copyright,it was in the 40's,.........and the other was an old doll book. Remember those smaller dolls back in the day???? This book has clothes patterns for them..and I should have gotten it. Arghhhhhhhhh

Look Hooooooooo Flew Onto My Desk

I would like to introduce to my newest little friend. Her name is Conner and I think she's just perfect and lovely in every way. She flew in yesterday..,Kristi from Punkin Seed Productions had sent her to live with me.......look at the tiny sweet card that Conner brought with her from Kristi....
She introduced herself, and after she had rested a bit...I took her to meet her new little friends, Suri the Mouse and Oscar the Flying Pig. They were so excited to meet their tired little friend,and immediately set about to make her comfortable. Then she and Suri had to admire the bow and the yoyo flower in the others hair. Then while she rested a bit more on the day bed with a tiny Sunbonnet Sue quilt over her, near the window where the scent of flowers helped her to rest and relax......, Suri and Oscar set about setting a tea.
For dessert,(which they always took special care with) they had tiny german chocolate cookies,topped with caramel and coconut pecan frosting, mini lemon cupcakes with lemon curd filling...
and for the small savory things, there were tiny tea sandwiches filled with chicken salad, tuna salad, and thin sliced roast beef.
Well, Conner awakened,, refreshed fron a tiny nap..and realized she was hungry. She was so happy her two new friends had thought to make tea for her. They each filled their little plates. and.came to sit at the beautiful table Suri and Oscar had put together . Everything was so perfect and Conner knew she would love her two new friends...........................and so,they sat and talked................and talked,.............................................
and talked some more. Finally,they were tired and went to their rooms. There was to be a picnic the next day..and they all needed to rest...
And so we leave them, the three new best friends...we leave them resting,sleeping and dreaming sweet dreams..............Soon,they will awaken and be ready for the tomorrow's adventure.
Thank you so much Kristi, for sending Conner to live with me. She's so sweet..and I just love her.
Oh My!!!!!!!!! Oh My!!!!!!!!!!! I almost forgot...Suri,Oscar and Conner want to say hello and send a hug to Nanette. Nanette lives with Tina of Beansie Babbles.......

Pfaltzgraff Butter Dish ..... Does Anyone Know the Pattern Name?? Blue Monday

It's been such a long time since I've visited sweet Sally...and so whilst recuping,I now have a bit of time to relax and visit all the pretty Blue Monday places. I've missed Blue Monday and it's nice to participate once again..

I have a mystery pattern here..at least a mystery to me. The maker of this sweet butter dish is on the back.. but there is no name or number. I have spent most of the morning searching.. and have come across two maybes. One is Aura Pink, the other is Juniper. The colors on those two patterns,(the ones I've found) seem kinda faded in color....the colors on mine are vivid and fresh..and yet the pictures I just took,..I don't think they show the colors well.
The top of the butter dish I have...is a cream color with a banding of a dark yellowish/greenish mix going into a narrow band of brown..and the patterns carries over on the inside. The bottom has a band of blue. The colors sound a bit strange..
but somehow they work together. The bottom of the butter dish is marked with their
mark in a circle and a copyright circle to the right..under that is Pfaltzgraff
Copyright USA . That's all there is..no number anywhere...
Sooooo, for all you collectors and thrifters out there, do you know what this pattern is??? I would love to know. I paid $1.50 for it, did I do good or bad? I kinda like it, I may keep and use it for myself..

I'm sure that by now,from listening to my whimpers..,everyone knows I fell and fractured my pelvis. I was rushing about some daily chores at the store,..with some pretty good sized bags in my right hand, rounded the corner...tripped over thin air and went flying...and crashed to the floor.I should say...laid out flat on my front and face,still with the bags in my hand. Had they not been there to cushion part of the fall,I think it would have been worse. *sighs. As I started to try and get up,with my dignity in jeporady,..I started to push myself up..and was instantly filled with pain. I whimpered and tried again..more pain...husband was then there trying to help me up..and more pain..*sighs again. Sooooooooooo....,to emergency room,scans,scans say fractured pelvis,will take 4 to 6 weeks to get all better,hafta either use crutches or a walker, back home with pain meds, now zooming from then to now......I have probably 4 1/2 more weeks to scamper about with a walker,I'm getting used to that... what I'm not used to,is not being able to sit at my computer for very long periods of time.
I love visiting my favorite blogs and commenting...and I miss that, I love emailing and I miss that...For awhile, I have to do bits at a time...and try not to whine.
I can't stand whiners..*sighs...*sobs, and I think I'm becoming one. Slap me down hard people. I slap my own self down and say,get a grip...do what you can and let the rest go.
And so...we are to the now time...

Mini Aprons .... Pink Saturday..

I warn you..the above pictures are repeats..!!!!!
These are 3 of my favorite mini aprons in quite a collection of every kind of apron, from vintage feed sack,bib aprons,half aprons, embroidered,pieced,quilt blocks, Sunbonnet Sues,crocheted, chicken scratched, gingham stitched, bottle aprons.... if it's an apron and I see it..I feel that it wants to come home with me.
And, most of them do...
I thought,since I can't do much,to sit and go throughmy collection to see how many I had...but after awhile I gave up unfolding,looking and refolding and re-placing..
my husband, seeing the mess and hoping for progress in a massive clearing out,then suggested that if I was tired of looking at aprons, perhaps I could go through and perhaps pare the hankie collection down. And truth to tell, it seemed like a good idea..*sighs. I admired, refolded and put them back in their storage. Yet again, enters himself..,looks about,offers to replace the boxes...and suggests I move on to perhaps crochet books..etc. By now, I like him less than an hour before and try not to suggest that he might be better off in another area, he brings in a large box of patterns..and then says, when you finish here, then you can get into the Sunbonnet Sue patterns. I froze him in his tracks with a look,I mean,..Sue's not going anywhere..(Do in England and I have made a vow..We both love Sue and all her little friends and we both have more fabric than is normal for any one person.., and so we've decided that whichever of us goes first..the other gets all the stuff.)
* I digress and lost my whole thought train, which after a pain pill, I'm not at my best anyway. Soooooooo, mine husnand has patiently,God love him, helped me with it all, has patted me on the head and hugged me..in my favor,I haven't bitten him..:), and am now being told,I've been on the computer enough for awhile. Hence, there is the reason for the repeat of the above apron post.. I promise to do better next week... Happy Pinks to everyone..

Vintage Superior #167 Embroidery & Applique Transfer Patterns .... New Friend and Friday Follow

I had to re-start this little series of handwork..and will try to add a new one each Friday.I think there are 10 in this series of Superior transfers..
I'm getting about a bit better after my fall, my walker and I are becoming fast friends..but ohhh,I can't wait till time to stop using it. It slows mw down too much..I seem to be one of those women that has 12 things going on at the same time and love every minute of it. hmmmmmmmm, Maybe I shouldn't hurry so much, it's the main reason I fell and fractured my pelvis..,so maybe it's time to have a bit of slow down and some handwork or applique. And now that I can sit for longer periods of time, I can get back to visiting my favorite blogs..I've really missed that..

1907 Pure Foods Cookbook .... Vintage Recipe Thursday

This will be my first time to participate in Vintage Recipe Thursdays. This 1907 is one of the oldest of my cookbooks..and the few things I've prepared the way the book tells me to, has actually been pretty good.

This wonderful little book is so filled with recipes, hints and suggestions..of different ways of cooking..it's absolutely ahead of its time. If you have a chance to buy this little book..I would suggest you look and then grab onto it for your own kitchen...
This cookbook was published 1907 by the N.K.Fairbanks Company, Chicago...

and notes "A collection of tested and economical recipes, emboyding the newest ideas in the preparation of pure, palatable and wholsome food; with many useful hints on food combinations and values".

The cook book is advertising Cottolene, "the perfect shortening..better than lard, better than butter"

"Cottolene can be substituted for butter with excellent results and for frying, it's better".

**** Note:

Since Cottolene is no longer available, I shall use regular vegetable shortening when trying out these recipes. Some of the best foods I have been priviledged to enjoy..have come from vintage family recipes..and recipes like these..from the older cookbooks....

Pick over, trim, wash in five waters, drain, put into kettle with water that drips from them; cook slowly at first till juice is drawn out, then quickly till tender; drain and rinse if you dislike the strong flavor, chop, reheat, season with salt, pepper and butter; add cream if you like, or serve with lemon or vinegar. If for a course, serve with hard boiled eggs; or serve cold as a salad.

Use fresh, tender, yellow or green beans. Remove strings and ends, cut in slanting slivers. Rinse with cold water. To one pint of beans, put into a stew-pan one level teaspoon butter, one-half level teaspoon salt, a dash of nutmeg and pepper; add beans, lifting them from the pan with only the water that clings to them; cover tightly and cook very, very slowly about one hour or until tender. Their own juice, with just heat enough to turn it into steam, will cook them; but, if cooked too fast and they begin to sizzle, add one or two tablespoons of water. Turn out when tender with no further seasoning.

We find our girl Sunbonnet Sue, getting the house all ready for the Vintage Things Thursday Party. The house is all sparkling and clean..the windows are open,letting in the early morning cool fresh air. The refreshments are all laid out on the table..
my !!!! There is so much... Sue's mother and grandmother..and her aunties have come to help with the party, and they are some of the best cooks in the county. They pride themselves on their pies and cakes..but just that good home cookin is good enough for the Sunday preacher even if the party is on a Thursday. Please help yourself to the food...the tables are set on the back screened-in porch..and the ceiling fan is on to cool you off some. That sweet tea and lemonade will help with the cool down as well. After we have our lunch...we can go visiting to see all the treasures that everyone is showing...but don't forget..the dessert table over there.Yummmmmmm
So hurry Sue, and sweep the front porch..the ladies will be arriving soon..

My Pink Saturday Will Be Late

I am so sorry to have to do this..I thought I could make it..get my Pink Saturday post and my giveaway posted ,,,,,,Alas, it's not going to happen today.
You see, I have a fractured bone in my pelvis..I've been taking it easy, not moving about very much and when I do move, I use the walker the Dr. said I needed to use. Yesterday, I had a Dr's appointment that I had to keep, and I had to park too far away.. I got out, got my walker.... I don't know what happened when i got out of my truck..but it hurt. anyway..slowly, using my walker..I started my walk to the office. Well,about halfway there.. I thought I was gonna scream. On a pain scale of 1 to 10...the pain was 720. Thankfully, someone else came by.. hurried indoors and told them I needed a wheelchair. Out came a wheelchair, an aide and the sweet lady that helped me. Ann..I shall forever thank you for coming to my assistance, I wouldn't have made it without you. The worst part is, the hurt is continuing on..*insert sighs and a scream here..
Last week, I was going on about the color pink.....and I think now,I know why we all love the color. Pink is the color of a friend, the color of a hug. it's the universal color of love...and if sisters had a color..it would be pink.
I had planned on quite a bit for today..including a giveaway...The giveaway will most certainly take place... and the drawing for the winner will be not next Sunday..but the Sunday after that. Here we have #3 in the little series of this set. Our girl Sue has apparently baked a cake, managed to get it out of the cake pan..and cooled, then frosted it all nice and pretty. Looks like her little puppy is bringing her something, so let's hope she doesn't trip over him. She looks quite happy..so maybe there is to be a small get together and she be serving refreshments. I wonder..is she having a Vintage Things Thursday party?????? and are we to be offered these wonderful yummies?????

Roses and Magnolias for Pink Saturday

All this was either scanned in..or photographed before my fall. I was thinking really hard about what I could do for Pink Saturday..and so the little Rosebud Faerie said to me... be still..and imagine being in the forest with me. We will run and laugh and play, and where you fell won't hurt....We'll look at bugs and beetles and ladybugs..we'll fly thru the forest on gossamer wings. We'll have tea parties with chipmunks and squirrels, the birds will make cupcakes and the elves will add the magic sprinkles. We'll fly to the tops of the trees,we'll play deep in the flower petals..we'll giggle and laugh. We'll sit on lilypads and watch tadpoles and baby fish, we'll play music on blades of grass and the dewdrops will sing. So close your eyes CC and imagine....magical clouds of wispy pink, dewdrops on rosebuds, a world thru rose colored glasses if you will for awhile...anything at all to bring you a smile.
Leave your rose colored glasses on for awhile....it's nice for a change, don't you think????? Happy Pinks to you all......

HomeandHeartsblog.com. She is so sweet to have thought of me for this award, it makes me ever so happy.....and let me tell y'all..I needed something to pick up my spirits.
You see, yesterday morning..whilst hurrying like a mad woman, rushing here,there and everywhere, trying to be in 10 places at once....I took a major, and I mean major ungraceful swan dive onto the floor. The concrete floor didn't budge,and mine body bounced. I lay there for a minute,fearing to move and have any sort of pain to begin...however,I was at my store and I couldn't possible just lie there,sprawled out, flat on my face and front. Si I moved a finger..and thought...hmmmmmm, ok. And I moved another...still ok, and I thought I had escaped any injury. So I started to move to sit up and was instantly overpowered with brilliant light sparks and shots of pain. I don't think that before,I had realized that pain has a color. It's brilliant,streaks of light..all colors shooting before your eyes and I admit it..I whimpered................ and called for help..Ok, maybe more than whimpered.. maybe I whined and I might have said a choice word, tho I'm not sure. To make a long story a bit shorter...after 5 hours in the emergency room, x-rays and a CT scan. it was determined that I had a fractured rami bone left portion pelvis...and it smarts.A LOT !! Can y'all tell I need heaps of sympathy,and hugs, and great grief,somebody stop me from whining anymore. I hafta see an orthepedic (sp?) surgeon and hafta use either crutches or a walker for 4 to 6 weeks...*whines and snurffles again. So I'm gonna hug my award...and be happy that someone thought I might be trendy. ...........1.

Lookit !!!! Lookit !!!!! Look at what I found sitting at the thrift store, minding it's own business. This is a little set of wooden dominoes,in it's own little box with sliding lid...... Of course, you know I had to have it, tho I wasn't for sure exactly what kind of dominoes I had...they were turned upside down, and dominoes was stamped on the backs....Later, when I got home, first thing I did was open little box to see exactly what I had... and look !!!!
Apparently now,I own a domino farm... Complete with animals, a barn and a tractor. I think they're just cute as can be. I don't know the age of the little set, but the paper at the bottom of the set tells me it's a
Pier 1 Imports set.......... I haven't a clue as to what to do with the little dominos..Does anyone have an idea as to how they might be used ???? I surely would appreciate suggestions..

Pantaloon Sunbonnet Sue # 4 .... Last of the Series

This is the last of the what I'm calling Pantaloon Sue's that I have found thus far in this box of patterns. I keep hoping and searching for more, as I really like these for redwork or just hand embroidery. I'm sure there would have been 7 in the little group.but never having seen this pattern..I can't be sure. I will just be happy with what I have found...and keep watching..maybe more will surface somewhere else. Sure hope you enjoy the little patterns and have in mind something you can use them for. I simply can't abide the old patterns being lost forever...
I had wondered if there was very many hand work embroiderier's and appliquers out there carrying on the old patterns. Rest assured, there are more of us than I thought....and we all love the vintage patterns,fabrics and manners of doing. I love being a part of a group carrying on such traditions...it's like I'm still touching fingertips with all the wonderful women in my life,that have come before me....and perhaps I'm reaching a bit into the future, touching fingertips with the women in my life..that will come after me.. I hope the old ways of needle work will always be honored and preserved....and that the patterns we have can be shared by all. It makes me so happy to see younger girls learning embroidery,applique...crochet and such. We so need to pass the traditions along..to somehow keep them alive. Perhaps I was born into the wrong time..sometimes I feel like I would have adapted more to the "back in the day" times,than now. I know I have glamorized that time and shouldn't have, for back then..a womans work was so hard and the hours just never ending..and yet,she found time somewhere,somehow..to make beautiful treasures to brighten her home... to bring meaning and beauty into her life. Great grief, how I admire those women...how I treasure their handwork..whether it be from the tatted edge of a hankie....to a crocheted tablecloth.. They are truly treasures...and for each one I acquire, I wonder..who it was that made it..and how did it find it's way to a thrift store or antique shop. Each piece has a story....and ohhhh,how I would love to meet the stitcher..to sit and visit for awhile. I just know that..though our names would be different..as would our stories, we would be forever bound together by our love for handwork of all kinds...that common thread that binds us all together..and tugs at out heart when we see a vintage piece for sale. We know instantly..that it's coming home with us...and again..we have touched fingertips with a long ago stitcher.....and we will keep the treasures safe..

I would like to introduce you to the wonderful work of Joey of http://antiquemajik,blogspot.com/. The little Sunbonnet Sue magnet is only of of so many that she makes,she's interested in so many different things. I think it was 3 weeks ago that Joey posted little Sue for Pink Saturday.. A few had sent me messages telling me to go look at Joey's site and to see the sweet Sue there, and so off I went to see. And just squealed with happiness, cause Joey had made her so cute and sweet. I left a comment for Joey, telling her how sweet I thought she had made Sue, and before you could say Sunbonnet Sue three times, I had an email from Joey wanting my address, so Sue could come live with me. And that email has started a friendship...I sent an email back, asking if she would accept a gift from me as well...and so addresses were exchanged...And three vintage hankies found their way to Australia and little Sue found her way to Texas. But what has really come to mean so much,is having met someone who is so sweet and talented as she is. We've shared some past stories and some of what we're doing now..the things we like.. just
girl talk,and it's been so much fun. You just have to make time to go and visit her
site..I know you will like her sweet,bubbly upbeat spirit. She's a sweetie..

The little rose pendant I found online...and just fell in love with it. I'm not much of a jewelry person,but I just love this pretty piece. I would so love to have one of my very own someday..

This is again..from the stacks of pillow patterns. And..ooo,there are some good ones. Do any of you remember smocking or your mother smocking aprons and pillows? Most of the time with beautiful ginghams..but sometimes, out would come that gorgeous velvet...and the grid would be drawn on the back..and the stitching would begin. However, as beautiful as the velvet pillows were, I am a gingham girl. I still am. Little makes me happier than a first glimpse of gingham in a thrift or antique shop..I immediately think..apron! apron!! and *sighs..even better if it has embroidery or chicken scratch worked on it. I am not ashamed to admit..I have been known to happy dance in a store. :).
Does anyone still do yoyo's?? I mean,besides me? It's a very soothing thing, to sit and cut circles form gorgeous fabrics..and sew those little circles. I have a small container filled, but..what was I thinking??? They are of different sizes. I have a grandaughter that may never sew anything else, but for awhile..that was her favorite thing to do. So we cut fabric and sewed. her favorites were always the shades of yellow.. if it was yellow, then Missy Taylor made the yoyo. *sighs.. my sweet girls are grown now..in college, with little time for making yoyo's with a granny, I miss them, the way they were when they were little. I'm going to stop that before I bring myself to tears..

Superior Design #167 .... Kitchen Motifs to Embroidery, And a GiveAway

This is a vintage 40's transfer design, using regular embroidery and cross stitch for the fill in or the shading. I've tried to enlarge the back of the package so the instructions might be seen more clearly. I've had this little set of patterns for quite awhile now..in fact, I don't seem to be able to remember for sure where I got them from....no matter though. I just don't seem to be able to let old,vintage patterns fall by the wayside. I love vintage..really vintage anything, but linens, pillowcases,tablecloths and aprons with beautiful embroidery and trims are my weakness. And when it comes to vintage patterns,there are so few out there and I just can't seem to let them die for lack of people being able to see and enjoy them.
I'm not sure how many of this little series, I believe there is 10 transfers.. and they just belong on anything kitcheny. Is that even a word? Just think..on tea towels,linens to line those gorgeous old cabinets, aprons..pot holders..curtains..
whatever you can thing of,these would be cute.
I will post one of the little patterns..each Monday and Friday..till the little series is done. I so hope you enjoy them..
Just click on the pictures to enlarge ...and run off a copy. Using tracing paper and your trusty transfer pencil, trace little pattern off. Lay the red transfer pencil side,face down on your project and iron on. Then just embroidery and enjoy...

A very large thank you to Susie of 1st Floor Flats...yet again, she has come to my rescue. She rather quickly thought of something to make a giveaway a bit easier...rather than writing each name and number down in order to draw a winner, Susie quite simply waved her magic wand that I just know is filled with help everyone sprinkles, she waved that magic wand and gave each comment a number. Ok...so maybe it's not really magic, but I think it may be. I can't believe how fast she made it happen..it was poof,poof and it was done. I think this is possibly one of the cutest,sweetest little dessert servers that I've seen. This particular one is made to hold 13 cupcakes..freshly baked and beautifully frosted for everyone to enjoy... and if you win, you have to share a cupcake with me..it seems I don't take time to bake much anymore.
Why then,you may ask..does she have this little cupcake holder??? And that would be a most wonderful question.. I have it because I just couldn't leave it behind in the thrift store. I had managed a bit of time for myself this afternoon...leaped into my trusty truck...ok,I didn't leap..I just climbed in *sighs, and away I went.. to one of my favorite thrift shops. Of course,straight to the dishes I go,hoping for more Pyrex,
and after looking all over,was about to leave that section..when I saw the pretty little cupcake box. Being nosy,I picked it up..,determined what it was, and went...yessssssssss !!!!!! This is one of the cutest ways to display cupcakes ever.
A little three tiered cupcake stand. And as a plus..it's made by Wilton. I love their products..from their cake decorating books to candy molds and candy melts. They make fine quality things...I was very,very pleased..
Just as soon as I got home..I quick emailed Beverly to see if there was time for me to post a give-away for Pink Saturday...and being our beautiful Beverly..she said of course.

This will be the first in a little series of our girl, Sunbonnet Sue. We find her trying to take a tea break,from her chores around the house..She seems to be having a bit of trouble..seems little puppy wants some attention. She's having a hard time balancing the teapot and tea tray.whilst whistling her way along, so watch out little puppy else you'll have a tea cup on your head.
There are 6 little patterns to share...and insofar as I can determine,they are from the 50's.. I so hope that makes them vintage. Each Thursday,I will post another of the little series of patterns, till you have the whole collection.

I have been terribly mistaken about the beautiful crocheted piece. In fact...it was Charlotte that crocheted the beautiful doily... I'm not sure how I got mixed up..perhaps I'm running in too many directions and need to slow down..and maybe I just need to pay closer attention. :).

I realize this being Pink Saturday..there should be some bit of pink..perhaps just a touch. However, in the first picture..there is no pink,no shade..no way,no how..no pink. But if you look close,it's filled with pink..cause that's gotta be the color of happiness. Happy dance happiness. Package's from friends in the mail happiness.. New friends happiness.. A hug from blogging friends happiness...
Can't you see the glow of pink begin..I can..and it's filled the screen with sparkly,pretty,pink hugs and love....

The first package in the mail was from Charlotte @ Yard Sales & Crochet Oh My!
She wrote to say she wanted to send me a pretty crochet piece her mother had made. I thought it so sweet that she wanted to share something so special with me and as you can see, her mother crochet's beautifully. There are stitches in this sweet doily that are called picot..and all my life I've loved that stitch and hated to make it..it's not an easy one to make look right...and her mother has managed to make it so pretty. I will treasure this sweet gift forever.. Now,I need to help her mother with some more Sunbonnet Sue applique patterns. I've not been able to print them off for her..my printer is out of ink and I haven't gotten any yet..but I've scanned some in and emailed them so Charlotte can run them off. I can't wait to see what pretty thing she makes.

The next package is from our own sweet LaVoice from Thoughts From MeMe's Corner.She wrote and wanted my address and knowing from her picture,she has that beautiful twinkle in her eye..I just knew she was up to something. And sure enough..she was. As her pretty note said, this was a "Just Because" gift..because that was the best kind...and she's right. When I got the little package, she should have been able to hear me squeal/scream/felt the ground shake from my jumping up and down.. (I'm too old to jump that way anymore :)......look,just look what was in the package...

Sweet Sunbonnet Sue potholders...beautiful vintage,quilted Sue potholders...,not one, but two of the little cuties. Can ya'll tell I'm smiling?? The color of smiles is pink.. I promise you..it is.

My wishes for everyone today are that someone special sends them a "Just Because" gift...There is nothing like them. There has been so many health issues in my family lately..and "Just Because" makes it better. We all need those kinds of hugs..
and I have been so privledged and honored to meet such wonderful blogger friends..
I care about so many of you..and each day,I make new friends.. I am blessed..

We're back to my favorite day again..Vintage Things Thursday. I love visiting around and looking at all the pretty things everyone has. Make sure you stop to look at all the vintage pretties, and make double sure to leave a comment, so everyone knows you've been there.

Monday, whilst out and about...I decided to check a Goodwill store to see if they had anything good..it's a larger store and I was hoping for something kinda good.
*sighs... I found a few patterns, an older Hallmark box of greeting cards,and it had so many extras,the top didn't fit down..a couple of aprons and a few vintage cookbooks.. nothing great...
But before going home, I stopped at a smaller one and did what I always do. I go straight for the dishes, next the shadow boxes, next apron searching...and next patterns. Going down the third little glassware aisle, I saw it..yessssssss!!
Pyrex...and a pattern that I hadn't seen. It's a sweet little 1.5 quart casserole dish with it's cover, is a soft yellow with a brighter green pattern. When I finally found some information on it..it stated that..."the pattern has daisy like flowers on trailing stems with smaller flowers". "It's green on yellow covered casserole dish in the Shenandoah pattern". This is one of a set of three..hmmmmm, I wonder where the other pieces are. Jiffy Mixes Recipes Booklet

This is just the best little recipe booklet..featuring one of our all time favorites..........Jiffy mixes.
Jiffy makes everything from cake mix,baking mix,muffin mix,frosting, pizza crust and pie crust mix..they make it all. I didn't realize the company made that many products..I knew cornbread,cake and frosting mixes..the others were new to me.
The recipe booklet was free,you only had to leave your name and address... and I can't remember where I found it. I do wish I could remember,for I know there are others that might like to have a copy. There are some wonderful sounding recipes here..everything from Bee Hives to Camper Twists, Canoes and Kamper Ropes.

okay..so it's only an armhole cutout and a pocket.. }
This is first of many planned aprons. Not only do I love making and collecting pincushions, I love collecting aprons....so maybe it's time I tried making some. I have many ideas, however, the very best is the old apron patterns I've collected through the years. I've never been able to bring myself to cut into them..I've always saved them for "someday". Well !!! someday is now..and so I begin.
The simplest of aprons is this...a piece of fabric held up to yourself to make sure it fits..and then cut out an armhole. Take bias tape, go all around edges..and leave long endings for apron ties...it's that simple.... : ).......p.s. this is also the way bottle aprons are made...
I really like this fabric..tho inexpensive at 1.99 per yard, it has Sue and Sam gardening..and I just had to have it. I have the same pattern in other colors....can't wait to begin on them as well.
It's nor showing up well,but the pincushion and the wire flower are both shades of pink.
I'm running way behind this week,so this is a repost.. I'll do better next time.

Pattern Books To Play With ..... Vintage Things Thursday

A few of the pattern books I found on my last thrifting excursion. I must have gotten there after everyone had gone through the good things..cause these books, a few more,and 1 Pyrex casserole was all that's left. There was a couple more pattern books, but they,along with a Sunbonnet Sue needle case is making it's way to England to Do. Little pattern books range from 1974 to 1990.. the pattern below for the little chicks..I think is as cute as can be..and it doesn't get any easier. I have to find some styrofoam eggs and make some..I should have found this pattern while the Easter supplies were out and about.

Straw or Raffia Dolls

I hope that you are able to see the picture and read the pattern. I enlarged it as much as possible...hmmmmm,maybe I can drop ir into paint,make it bigger..and get it back on here. I'll see how it works.

I've seen these dolls back in the day,tho I've never made any..I've made cornhusk dolls and really like them.

When we were little,my mother made corn husk dolls for us..and my grandmother made corn cob dolls for us, tho I have'nt a clue how she did them. Thise little pages of pattern was in a sort of folder in that box of patterns that I'm still looking through and trying to sort.. I hope someone might be able to use them..

Pink Pretties That I Wish I Had

This is one hurried put together pink post. These are some pretty things I wish I had..alas,they're to be found in catalogues...and are not mine as yet. But I can dream... Plus....if I don't get crafting,or finding some pretty pinks in my thrifting/other shopping trips, I'm just about out of pinks. *sighs
My internet has been down off and on all day, so let's hope I get this post done before the next outage. I've inquired as to the problem..and the lady at the other end of the phone says.."I don't know", I leave it at that..today has been a rough day at best. I'm ready to sit with a coffee,with lots of cream and sugar.... and a wonderful lemon pastry..., and go visiting all the sweet pink ladies. I always look forward to this time, thank you again Beverly,for hosting us all.
*** I did not mean to imply that I visit each and every one of the pink ladies every Saturday, I've only been able to visit everyone just one time...alas,now each week,I just run out of time,but I visit as many as I can.

First, we have a sweet little pink recipe book. Isn't it sweet?? Perhaps special recipes should go in this one..Maybe recipes from your mother or grandmother..
And next...is a sweet chef outfit for your ever ready dish detergent. You must admit this much cuter than a box of dishwasher detergent. Accckkkkk. Try dressing one of those if you're really crafty. gulp and sighs. I'll probably have 3 emails showing me how to dress a box o dishwasher detergent. LOL..It might be fun,cause there are some crafty ladies out there..

Then next, we have some pretty in pale pink cookware..It's pretty, but I still like the set I found with the flowers better. I just know I could cook like a French chef with that set.
And, lastly..there is a microwave set..again..pretty in pink.
Well, we are to the end of my post and the internet has stayed on for a full 20 minutes now..maybe it's finally repaired.. Crosses fingers and hopes...

One was opening the envelope from Suzanne and discovering all the sweet Sunbonnet Sues in the package. It was an unexpected gift..and it made me so happy.. I love my surprise in the mail...
And another wonderful find at a thrift store..a stack of 25 pattern books of both old and new crafts...some patterns to send to England to share with Do. She's wanted to make some little animals again, and these are just such patterns. I scanned them in to show her,and she can't wait to get them and get started. That makes me very happy to be able to share with her. It's been a wonderful week..

Looks Like I'm Rich Now

This is the third one today of almost identical emails...except the sender is supposedly a different person. Who are these dingbats..????
Though I must admit..I'm a little hurt. I only have a 6 million dollar stack of money waiting on me to claim. Yesterday or the day before, someone posted that a dingbat had emailed her,saying her stack o' money was 10 or 11 million 5 hundred thousand...so I'm a tad miffed at my "deceased" at a mere 6 million.
Here is my email,hmmmmmmm, does this mean I no longer need to work??? *sighs...
This was sent by a Mr, Miles this time, I've received almost the identical one from a Mr. Edwards and a Mr. Johns. I am informed that I'm not answering the emails...don't they know I'm waiting to give all my personal information till the money goes up?? lol I hope they're holding their breath till I answer.. :)

Will you just look at these adorable little sweeties that I got in the mail today.
I saw that the mail was from none other than our own lovely Colorado Lady...it was marked "Do Not Bends Please", and I couldn't imagine what it was. Needless to say,I hurried to open it..and you could have heard me squeal for a mile..and then the happy dance began. These little ones are so sweet and adorable and can you tell I love them. Ohhh,I do,I do love them. Suzanne said the lady she bought them from said they were old, so Little Sunbonnet Sue,with the splendid help of Suzanne, is going to be my Vintage Things.
Sweet Suzanne, I can never thank you enough..you more than made my day. I'll be smiling every time I look at the little Sue's you sent. I'm doing to find a little frame they will fit in,frame them and sit them on my desk so I can see them every day.I will treasure them always...thank you,thank you..and many hugs.

Sweet Awards

A complete surprise and honor came to me Thursday from a lovely blogger,Xmas Dolly.
She was awarded three sweet awards and she passed all three of them along to her friends. I am honored that she thinks of me as a blogging friend..and thought it was so sweet of her to think of me. I'll add them to my sidebar in the little slideshow. Finally figured out how to do the slideshow..but I,for some reason,can't get the captions showing who the awards were from...just can't get that to work for me. *sighs..I am not computer smart. Seems like I learn something new every day..and still I want to know more and more.
Below are the three awards...aren't they sweet. Two of them, the One Lovely Blogger,and the Humanity awards,I had already received from other sweet blogging friends..but the cute Sugar Doll is a new one... I want the ladies below to have all three awards if they don't already have them.

Also, I'm supposed to list 10 things about myself... I'm not sure I know 10 things about myself. Let's see...maybe that would 1 thing...#10..I really don't know myself

1. I'm a cancer survivor,and it's helped me to find an inner strength I never realized I had. I learned that each day is a gift,and sometimes a sunset..specially the beauty of a sunset,or a soft falling spring rain..it's like I just fill up with the wonders and beauty of our Maker..and I whisper Thank You..
2. I'm the mother of two sons..I have 4 grandchildren,1 daughter in love, and a former daughter in love that I'm still best friends with.
3. I'm a crafter,but I don't have much time now to play,but I so enjoy crocheting,a bit of knitting,embroidery,a bit of painting,applique work,trying my hand at quilting.
4. I love collecting vintage embroidered linens and pillowcases,vintage patterns..specially my favorite girl,Sunbonnet Sue and her little friends, vintage crochet, pretty handkerchiefs with embroidery,and crocheted or tatted edges, and embroidery and craft patterns.
5. I admit to being addicted to fabric.Turning me loose in a fabric store is the very best thing ever..I want a yard of everything..And all the trims and laces that match the fabric.
6. As a fabric addict,I admit to having 5 huge containers filled with beautiful fabrics.And trims to go with, and now that my husband is not well,and I work my store,there's little time to play and craft.. *sighs,but I will again soon.
7. I love my blogging time...love visiting,meeting and making new friends. There are so many wonderful people blogging..,it's just lots of fun visiting.
8. I love gardening,though I'm only good with vegetables. I can't grow flowers,they just don't do well, but give me green beans,blackeyed peas..tomatoes and onions..I gown wonderful vegetable gardens. It's reached the time though,that I'm going to need raised beds..it's really hard for me to bend over as much as a veggie garden requires. But it's one of my favorite things to do..I just love playing in the dirt and watching things grow.

Now I'm supposed to present these awards to 10 lovely ladies.. Some are award and tag free, so I'll just send them along a hug.

6. LaVoice of Thoughts From Meme's Corner,... a sweet,gracious lovely lady with so much class and grace. It's an honor and pleasure to know her.
7. Sherry of A Happy Valentine..another sweetie. She always leaves the nicest comments..and her pretty sweet blog makes me smile when I visit.
8. Dianne of The Thrifty Groove.... Diann is such a sweet lady. She visits and leaves the sweetest comments. I love to visit her and see what she's making or doing next.

Precious and Pretty Pink Tea Sets. .... Pink Saturday

It's the weekend again..and I'm so happy that it is....,for it means we can all have a pink party with so many lovely ladies joining in. We can go walking through blogland,and stop at each house that has the pink banner waving. You will know the banner for it will have Beverly's dolls on it. When you see that banner,stop for a visit,look at all the wonderful things..and don't forget to leave a comment. I, myself, love getting and reading comments. Each and every one that takes the time to leave a sweet message makes my day so much brighter,specially if I'm tired or troubled..it's like a small hug from a faraway friend..., and I appreciate them.

Perhaps this would be the pink post to scream out to the rafters.."I want all these tea sets". Whew,that took all my energy,cause I really yelled it out. Will you just look at these little gorgeous sets..are they not beautiful?? And does CC not want them all?? Yes,CC does. I would settle for one..I think. Maybe not,because I wouldn't be able to choose. *sighs. These are for the younger girl tea sets anyway..and I passed the younger girl a few years back. But I still want these tea sets. They're not mine,but ohhh how I wish they were.
I would have a small beautiful table,set with one of these sets,tiny cups and dessert plates with our silver service. We would have the finest napkins with tatted edgings from back in the day..and I would invite all of you.
We would have tea and crumpets and strawberries and clotted cream. Do would come from England and tell me I was doing it wrong,and I would hug her and hug her,cause she is a dear,dear,sweet,loving friend that I will probably never get to meet in person.But I love her dearly even if we never get to meet for real.
Our tables would be laid with the finest cloths and we would have beautiful vases with my favorite hyacanith (sp),peonies and the palest pink tea roses.
Our Princess of the tea party would be our lovely hostess Beverly and she would wear a beautiful diamond tiara in honor of all the work she does to keep our Pink Party going. P.S. We love you Beverly..
There would be lovely ladies in waiting for the lovely Princess..they would all have beautiful,but smaller pink diamond tiaras..there would be the lovely lady Jeanne from Backyard Neighbor, the lovely lady Claudie from Bubblin Over, lovely lady Tina from Beansleigh Babbles, the lovely lady Dawn from C and G Designs, the lovely lady Alice from Singapore My Home. the lovely lady Diann from Thrifty Groove,the ever so lovely and gracious lady Susie from First Floor Flats, lovely lady Nancy from Le Chambre Rose..,lovely lady Sherry from A happy Valentine, there's lovely lady Anne from AnnesPhamily...and so many other lovely ladies..

Vintage Embroidery Patterns .... Vintage Things Thursday

Hello to everyone..it's my favorite day again..how I enjoy this day,and thanks to Suzanne,our lovely hostess..it gets better with passing time. This week she's posting about 1913 Cripple Creek,Colorado Graduating Class. Their photo album, invitations,dance programs,etc. Suzanne doesn't know it, but that's my favorite part of Colorado,though I've not seen any part I didn't love.

The first set of patterns is an early McCalls Embroidery Transfer Kaumagraph #1534 and little pattern sold for 25 cents. It's apparently for babies clothing or little bibs,because the transfers are so small.
What can I say about mama chicken and her baby?? Love her apron with the hankie neatly folded in her pocket.
Next we have little Raggedy Ann..all ready to be embroidered or painted...I keep telling myself that I will get around to painting and woodburning some again. I used to love burning cutting boards,pizza peels (sp?), wooden spoons and utensils..anything I could get a pattern onto. Since my husband has been sick, it seems that with work and helping him,there's little time for anything else. But,I will get to it and my other crafting..I really miss it. Somehow..being surrounded with my paints,sewing supplies,laces,trims..my craft things I can't live without, it's somehow very soothing and comforting. Crafting takes away the everyday problems and I can just lose myself there. Hope you can find some use for these little patterns. I do love embroidering.. again,where does the time go?? Someday...back to normal and crafting.

Crockpot Sage Stuffing

It's Crockpot Wednesday time again..time to get our crockpots and put them into action.It's been so busy lately,that it's hard to even find time for using a crockpot. This recipe was given to me by Jana..she says she's sampled this and it's very good. I've not yet tried it but I plan on doing so. To see what everyone is cookin..scoot on over to DiningWithDebbie. Recipe Source: A longtime friend Jana shared this recipe..and it was given to her by her mother's friend. She says shes tasted this and it's delicious..here's the recipe exactly as was given to me...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 cup chopped celery
1 chopped onion
3/4 cup margarine
4 eggs,beaten
10 3/4 ounce cream of chicken soup
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 teaspoons sage
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 pound loaf bread,cubed
10 3/4 ounce can chicken broth
Saute celery and onions in margarine for 15 minutes
Mix together eggs,soup,baking powder, sage,pepper and cubed bread,
Stir in chicken broth, celery and onions. Stir until bread is coated. Mixture will be very moist.
Pour into greased crockpot. Cook on high for 1 hour, turn to low for 4 to 5 hours. Stir often to prevent sticking.

Sweet Sunbonnet Sue and Little Ducks

Here we have our sweet Sue, dressed in one of her cutest dresses.. playing with two of her sweetest friends, meet Daffy and Donald. She's had her ducks since they were just babies and they follow along with her everywhere. They have a little area where they can swim..and of course, in the pastures,there are all sorts of wonderful places for ducks,chickies and all sorts of sweet animals. Part of Sue's chores are to make sure all the small ones are fed...She loves feeding the chickens when there are babies..and she thinks they're so soft and sweet and fuzzy.

Can you tell that I am interested in so many things,going in so many different directions..and at times I get befuddeled as to what to try next.
It's been a few years now,since I made the one and only bracelet and necklace I ever made with safety pins., and surprisngly, they were quite pretty. I gave them away,I'm just not much of a jewelry person..although I think most is so pretty and other women look so great wearing their lovely pieces of jewelry. I would be happy to tell you exactly when this and the other books were put out, the sad truth is,I'm taking these pictures from one of my files..the pattern books are stored away.
Next is the No Sew Hoops. Not so long back,everyone was making these little hoops and in country homes, they were hung in many different areas. I kinda wish it was still in style,it would be a small project for me to do.I may make one anyway...only, make an applique hanging in a hoop. I love to applique..it's most soothing to me, almost like crocheting with lovely,fluffy,soft beautiful yarn..and watching the afghan get bigger and bigger.
Next..the little jar lid covers. I think they're just the cutest things..and would look good almost anywhere. They wouldn't be at all difficult to make,and should crochet up quite fast.
And last..is the little book of patterns for crocheted animals.When my sons were small,I made all sorts of crocheted and stuffed animals. Remember the patterns for the little soft animals that were jointed..they were just kinda flat. Wish I still had those patterns.

More Projects from Do... Pillow and Quilt

Just when I think my sweet friend Do, from England, has slowed down a bit.... I get these lovely pictures. I must say I was just speechless for a bit..(which for me is amazing)..she had said she was just working slowly along on a couple of projects. And here they are,rather quickly.
The first is a cushion/pillow..and is made with suede. She has made her husband the most gorgeous quilt with the suede,and this is the leftover pieces,made into a pillow. The other..is a smaller quilt, a napping quilt,made not to cover the while bed, rather to just cover the napper.I love it..the choice of fabric,the color selection..she has such an eye for it. And she can also make the decision as to color,fabric..pattern..and let's get to it. I,on the other hand..am not decisive. I stress over the selection of colors..and fabric. The pattern is usually a given, I like Sunbonnet Sue,Log Cabin and Rail Fence patterns..so it will be one of those for a block. Ahhhhhh, you should hear the conversations we have each day whilst chatting.The end result is, CC..choose some fabric,make a block..and then just lay that block down and walk away. Choose more fabric and make another.. (This is always when I'm trying to decide what 12 completed Sunbonnet Sue blocks will look like laid out together). She says when I've finished the 12 blocks,they will work wonderfully well....I am scared that a couple of blocks will glare out at me,completely out of place on that quilt. About that time...she says arrrrghhhhhhh, will you just get busy, and make Sue some little dresses.
You know, I may have discovered the reason for not being able to settle on choices of fabric..etc. I believe I am quite simply a fabric and pattern addict and collector. Is there like a group counseling for that??? Tuesday, I bought more fabrics,pretty trims and tiny buttons...all for a Sue quilt,pillow..needlecase....
The fabric was just too pretty to leave and not have some for myself, so I bought more.*sighs.. I don't need lace, I have enough lace,of all sizes,shapes..colors, beaded,non beaded..I will never need to buy more lace..if I live to be a hundred and seventy five, I will not need more lace. Did I mention I have a lot?? heehee.
What I need is motivation.Maybe recharged..energized, maybe some vitamins..anything to get my crafting mode started again.. *sighs again... I have digressed and carried on long enough. Now I need to get back to work..I just wanted everyone to see more of Do's beautiful work.

Are these not the most adorable little bags. I'm not sure when she found time to do these,since she's also doing another quilt,but I'm so happy she did. I think these are just the cuteest little bags ever..and these are her little patterns.
They're embroidered with the sweetest little animals..they're all lined, and she's added a cell phone pocket for the young ladies, for all we all know..ladies don't move without their cell phone. (You know,I think one grandaughter has hers actually attached to the side of her head.)
I just couldn't wait to show these.. they're just the sweetest.

A sweet Sunbonnet Lady by her fence. This was just a touch too large to scan...but I got the best part and you can add a bit more to the sides if need be. This was the only one like it in the stack of patterns... I really like this one,now to find a table runner or maybe a sweet,pretty gingham pillowcase with a wide ruffle.

Here we have some transfers to copy,run off and transfer to tracing paper with a transfer pencil. I use a red Dritz pencil that I got at JoAnn's. This worked wonderfully well then as an iron on transfer. This group and the next few following came out of the first stack of opened patterns that I bought. I just couldn't leave them laying there unwanted. I hope they appeal to someone and they use these and the other little patterns posted. I may have to take up fabric painting,cause I don't embroidery fast enough to possibly make everything....yet I seem to want every unwanted pattern that I see. I believe I might have a serious pattern collecting issue going on here...

I can't tell you how honored I an to call her friend,she is the sweetest,most generous lady anyone could ever have the pleasure of meeting. She designed my header..and then came back,tweaked everything...then made me my take it and email buttons. I just love her. I was so happy when Ms. Beverly said we might stray a bit from pink this week, perhaps to a soft pastel color. I was quite happy with that,because I had already decided to do another apron giveaway...and I believe I have all the pink chicken scratch/gingham stitch aprons packed away. That left me with all sorts of colors, but this yellow was one of the softer colors. I do have lots more aprons,but I specially wanted it to be in the chicken scratch/gingham stitch type..(this is not true chicken scratch..it's gingham stitch)....so this Saturday, I will show you the give away apron. I so hope you like it..
I think I'm so loving the gingham stitch so,because I've done it since a little girl. I've had blouses,skirts,dresses..aprons,potholders,..tablecloths..anything you can make with gingham,I've probably made or helped make. I loved the look then and I love it now. I have loads of gingham,I need to get busy making something.. anything really. Just something to get me motivated to crafting again. It seems that after working the hours I work,and my husband has not been well,..that crafting has fallen by the wayside and I miss it. Though,I do enjoy seeing everything that all my favorite bloggers make. I am amazed at the beautiful,wonderful things that some of the ladies make.For example, Barbara Jean from Treasures From the Heart ..everything she makes is just gorgeous. I mean, she makes bouquets of roses from tea bags..and then is generous enough to write tutorials on the things she does. She is a lovely,gracious lady..she and so many others are inspirations to me. Our hostess Beverly is another inspiration...sweet Jeanne from Backyard Neighbor, Claudie from Bubblin Over, Tina from Beansie Babbles, Dawn at C and G Designs,Marian from Dream Weaver...a new friend Parsley from Seasons of My Mind..I could go on and on, There are just so many sweet,lovely ladies out there.Always ready with sweet words and sweet comments..you all just make my days better and I thank you for your visits.

For this Vintage Things..I offer some Vogart patterns. I don't seem to have as many of them as I do Aunt Martha,and I don't know why that is. They're beautiful patterns..and stamp off so well,maybe I just don't come across them too often.
I'm not sure of the age of them, just that they were in a large lot of patterns I bought.I've looked for a date,but have been unable to find one. If these are not vintage,I apologize...
I think I like the patterns in the blue package the best..there are some tiny birds on the pillowcase stamps, and I really like those. I wish that embroidery went faster, there are so many things I want to make,and not nearly enough time.

Fabric or Crepe Paper Flowers

I can't wait to make some of these. They would be so pretty done so many ways.. and I can see them done in a crepe paper as well.
Yesterday when I was out for awhile, I went by the fabric store to see all the beautiful things..and found for myself some really sweet fabric.It's dainty and shabby looking..perfect for these flowers. These two sheets of pattern was in a folder,in that big box of patterns. I wonder..if whoever saved all the patterns... I wonder if she made some flowers, did she embroidery..did she paint.... And,I wonder...how long did it take to gather all these patterns together. Whoever she was, she was a crafter for sure. Nobody could amass this many patterns unless you were a crafter of the finest sort. I think I would have enjoyed crafting with her...

Today my offerings are some sweet patterns that I want so badly to get started on.
It's not easy to work on a project, I put in some long hours at my store...ummmmmm,
but that's not the only reason for my not crafting.

Little pattern is filled with yummies to make. So many cakes and pastries..yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Now all I have to do is give myself a pep talk,and begin choosing the fabric fot the projects. And therein lies yet another super pitfall. Apparently,I have so much fabric,that I can't make a decision.
I must confess and stand before you to say..
I am addicted to fabric. I want all the fabric I see. But that's another story for another time.

Days of the Week Embroidered Dishtowels .... Vintage Things Thursday

It's that time again !!!!! Yay for my favorite day of the week. I love looking at all the beautiful vintage things that everyone shows... Thank you to our lovely hostess,Suzanne, for all her hard work and for hosting us all. To see what all the vintage things to see..click on.. I thought for this weeks Vintage Things....I would show you some vintage embroidered dish towels.
These beautiful dish towels were given to me not long ago,by my husband's physical therapist.At times,when we go for his visits, I will take some embroidery along, and stitch away to make the time pass a bit faster. Pam loves embroidery as much as I do,specially the vintage pieces. She said she had never was able to embroidery herself,but loved others work. Anyway, about a month ago, she brought these sweet little birdy dishtowels to therapy..and said she had 3 of the same set,and wanted me to have one of them. She told us that a former patients wife...(an 82 year old lady)had been making and selling the sets about 20 years ago,and she had bought 3 sets..
I thought these were the cutest days of the week ever. You wouldn't believe the teeny,teeny..teensy stitches she has made in her work.... and the back of her embroidery is as cleaned up and pretty as the front. Her work is just gorgeous.. and I can only wonder,how long she had been embroidering.
I love the set I have and will treasure it. Those sweet little birds defiantly have a good home with me. I should have taken pictures of the work to post,instead of scanning them in. The scanning has created shadows and it appears the dishtowels
need some laundering and sun drying. I will have to have another look at Suzannes method of cleaning old linens and aprons.

Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam Buttons ..... Look What Came In The Mail

A couple of weeks ago, a very sweet lady named Ruby..(she's at
NeitherBrilliantNorBeautiful )emailed me and asked for my address. She said she had found something she knew I would love. Annnnnnnndddd,she said,they were Sunbonnet Sue buttons. At this news,I seemed to have lost it. You see,I love sweet Sue and anything concerning her, and I love,love,love buttons. So I kinda lost it.
*sighs.. You must remember,that I had never seen such a wonderful thing as a Sue button...and so..I admit it..I hopped and skipped around a bit, singing oh my!!! Sue buttons,sue buttons.
And so, off in an email,I sent this sweetheart of a lady, my address....annnnnnnnd..
Look,look,look at what came in the mail today. Oh my gosh!!!!!! Just look!!!!!!
It's little Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam..and sweet heart buttons. I have happy danced till I'm tired...I may not be able to happy dance for awhile,but I can smile and smile when I look at these sweet buttons..and will you just look at the beautiful cream lace she sent with them. In my mind,I'm happy dancing again.
Thank you Ruby..thank you,thank you..thank you. I love the buttons and the lace. What a sweet,lovely lady you are to think of me. *sighs..

Crazy Patch Quilt

I apologize for a repeat post, I'm simply running out of time. It's been such a busy week at the store..(for which I'm thankful), but it surely cut's down on computer time.
Today was a good day at the store,but as busy as it was..all the customers were nice and skippy happy. The sun was shinning,it was warm and everyone was happy. I was even brought some of the first blooms from a sweet customers flower bed. I love them

This has been my first attempt in quite a few years of a crazy quilt. Tho it's not a true crazy quilt..just my version. I have the backing, the batting and the sew, add a piece and flip it..sew.. and carry on with the next piece. Sorry for the blurriness of photos..because if I do say so myself, it's coming along nicely and is quite pretty..all in calicos, ginghams, ribbons and lace...

This was not at all what I planned to show. However,this sweet little pantaloon girl helped me out a bit with this post.
You see, I had planned on showing some vintage aprons..and took a stack of them out to press and freshen up for the picture taking. I ironed and I ironed and then ironed some more....set my area up to take my pictures of said aprons, get my trusty camera and what ho!!!!!!!!!!! she says...*sighs here. Needs batteries. So since I was too laxy to get out for more batteries, I am now offering this sweet little pattern for my vintage showing.
I wish I had the rest in this series,as I'm sure there was a little series. But thus far, only the two are all I've found of our girl in pantaloons. I do know for certain though,I will never run out of embroidery/paint/woodburn patterns. With what all I already had, this big box full..will keep me going for the next 20 years.

Walk-Away Chicken Soup .... CrockPot Wednesday

Yayyyyyyy.... it's that day of the week to share crockpot recipes. I don't use mine as much as I should..not sure why either. It's so easy to add everything..and just walk away..come back and dinner's done. This week I offer a recipe for Chicken Soup, passed to me by my friend Lee. I was given this recipe..my friend Lee said this is a good one. I wish I could say I've tried it,but I haven't. The ingredients are simple..it includes a rotisserie chicken from your favorite supermarket. ,recipes just don't get more simple than this.
For the stock...you will need:
1 large or 2 regular rotisserie chicken carcasses
1 large onion, cut into quarters
1 large rib celery, cut into pieces..include the leaves of the celery
1 large carrot, cut into medium pieces
5-6 sprigs Italian or flat leaf parsley
1 larfe bay leaf
5 or 6 peppercorns
8 cups water
To make the stock......place all the ingredients into a 4 to 5 quart slow cooker..cook on low for 8 hours. Don't lift the lid while the stock is cooking. Use a slotted spoon to lift the cooked veggies from the slow cooker and discard them.
For the soup:
1 1/2 cups shreds rotisserie chicken,pulled apart
1 cup baby carrots, cut into 1/4" rounds
1 cup wide egg noodles
1/2 cup medium sliced celery
1 bay leaf
1 Tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
To make the soup:
Stir in the soup ingredients and cook on low for 45 minutes to an hour...until the noodles and carrots are tender. Remove the bay leaf and serve immediately.....

Sunbonnet Girl in Pantaloons

Included in that one large box of patterns, there was this sweet pattern of a young Sunbonnet girl doing some of her chores in her sweet,ruffly pantaloons. (Am I spelling that correctly?). I'm sure there was a little series of maybe 7 "days of the week" chores, but I only have this one and one more....and then one little farm girl Sue with her favorite scarecrow. I wish there had been lots more Sue patterns in the box, but I'll take whatever happens to come my way.
If you decide to embroider our sweet girl..all you need do is to run off a copy here...Then I use tracing paper and trace the pattern in a red Dritz transfer pencil. Then all I need to do, is place the traced pattern transfer side down on my fabric, and iron the transfer on. Then the project is all ready to embroidery. This is also how I do my vintage patterns to keep them intact. I simply trace them off and then use that pattern as my iron on.
I sure wish there were more hours in the day..embroidery stitching goes so slow and easy, and it just takes time to complete...but you know, somehow with my fabric in a little hoop...and beautifully colored threads spilling out of my embroidery basket,in my mind I wander back to softer,sweeter times..somehow, the stitches are so soothing that it's next to impossible to stress and worry...it's just a gentle,calming way to spend some quiet time with yourself. I love to embroidery..I love the beautiful colors..and I love the different patterns and stitches. Thank you granny, for taking the time to teach a little girl..the patience to be still long enough to thread a needle...and to pull that gorgeous color through the fabric..sweet stitch after sweet stitch. Each time I pick up my work, I think of you..and sitting on your bed with all the beautiful silk thread and those boxes and tins of buttons.Somehow,I know you're watching the stitching, smiling and nodding approval..and you're in your sweet apron,with your hair in a bun and a brooch or a pin on your dress...thank you granny..I remember you..and I love and miss you..

I was absolutely stunned to win Josette's Love In Giveaway. There was so many gorgeous,beautiful things..I couldn't wait to see them all in person. As all of you know, Josette's area is http://mygrammassouljo.blogspot.com/, and she has one of the most gorgeous blogs out there. Each picture is a mini work of art..she is most talented.
When the package arrived..I grasped my camera firmly in hand and found a suitable place for opening and picture taking...
Upon opening the little package, and peering down inside..I saw all these wonderfully wrapped little packages. (I must tell you here that I sighed..)..and so,one by one..out came the tiny packages... Look what was inside...
First,I picked up a small square and was amazed at the most lovely smell..it's a tiny square of the sweetest smell you can imagine..it's just wonderful...it's special place is a pretty soap dish sitting on my little counter..
Next, came a tiny book..Inner Simplicity...
Next came..the sweetest tiny little journal with a jeweled locking cover...
Next came...another tiny beige leather looking mini journal,with a gold filigree bookplate and with eyelet looking lace edged paper...
Next..came... a golden cherub book clip..
Next came.....a tiny standing beautiful clip with which to hold a favorite picture...
And next.......... there were the gorgeous handmade cards. They're the most beautiful I've ever seen... Just look, aren't they gorgeous?????
There are sweet hearts, pretty ribbons..so many wonderful things in this little package. This is something I will never forget. When Josette set out to do a giveaway...she worked overtime on this one.
I am amazed at all the wonderful, beautiful things and Josette..you truly are one talented,sweet lady, and I thank you so much for all these beautiful things. I will cherish them always..
P.S. If I can get unselfish enough to share, I will pass along your love and send one of the beautiful cards in the package when I send Dawn her Sunbonnet Sue needle case.. Please forgive me Dawn..I haven't sent it out yet, I still can't get to feeling good. This miserable weather is not helping, but I will get your sweet Sue in the mail Monday.. She's very anxious to come meet you..I know she will just love you..

It was time for my husband to choose a name from the little wire bowl. Suri and Oscar was there to make sure all was done correctly..... And without furthur ado....let's see the name.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...........It appears that sweet Sue and Hannah have met and made new friends..
The girls awakened one winters morning to falling snow..and more snow..and still more snow... They had never before seen such big flakes of snow and from inside the warm house, the whole outdoors looked like swirling and twirling and dancing snow. They were so excited and couldn't wait to go outdoors, but Mother said "No..you girls have to have a nice hot breakfast", and she made them nice buttered oatmeal , and cinnamon toast and orange juice. They tried to calm down long enough to have their food..and help Mother clear the table. Finally !!!!!!!!! Mother said they could go out..and that when they were finished playing,they would all gather some fresh wonderful snow,and they would make ice cream and maybe some maple candy. Mother helped the girls dress warmly and then opened the door and out the girls ran,into that beautiful fluffy snow.
Thet ran,they played,they jumped into snow banks..they squealed from the pure joy of having hugs snowflakes fall on you..and you trying to catch them on your tongue...and then............... what's this

Look at her tiny flowers on her ankle. Look at the tiny flowers she's showing you in the snow..

The girls are having such fun playing with their new friend..and when their sweet friend told them.."Get your little wagon"..they quickly ranto get it. She instructed them to add some snow into the wagon and make it a whooooooooooole lot of snow..and when they did that, she twinkled her magic wand..and ta da!!!!!!!!!!!!!
another new friend.Their new friend quickly introduced himself to the little group...his name was Wooly,...and for a long time, they all laughed and played..and then finally, it was time to go in. They were tired and cold and a bit hungry... but oh my!!!! the fun the little ones had. They had laughed and danced and jumped..and played ring around the rosie with their new friends. Inside the warm house..was a big fireplace,so warm and inviting..hot chocolate and whipped cream.... and later a supper of chicken and dumplings. *sighs...we leave our little friends till next time and their next adventure...you're always invited to join us..and join in their fun...and you're always invited to dinner...

Vintage Patterns for Vintage Things Thursday

It's the most wonderful day of the week again..Vintage Things Thursday over at ColoradoLady's place. This is such a fun day,and we get to see so many sweet things..I always enjoy it so much. Thank you Suzanne for hosting us all. If you would like to participate,just scoot over to

My offerings this week for Vintage Things Thursday will be these patterns..and their wrappers. I think the patterns pretty much speak for themselves...they're vintage,but I'm not sure how vintage....
If I were guessing,I would think perhaps the Superior transfer #183 is perhaps the older of little patterns shown, with the Sunbonnet young lady pillowcase transfer being next in line with age. That pattern is an American Weekly Transfer Pattern..#3084....and I think it's just gorgeous.The fabric for her skirt is embroidered with the flowers,then make the ruffles,and add to the pillowcase. I had always wondered how they did that..I know my mother and grandmother had made some,but I couldn't remember how. This little pattern pretty much goes step by step.
The other two little patterns I just threw in because I thought they were cute.
This group and the rest of the zip loc gallon bag patterns, well these I bought. I just couldn't leave them there,I had to have them...so I began the bidding on ebay..
and I won the bid with almost nothing. No one else bid at all...I am quite happy to have all these sweet patterns..there are lots and lots of them. When I'm 110 years old,I will still be embroidering,I hope. Who knows..I may get back to fabric painting. I've done some of that with the paint in a tube..I can't remember what those paints were called. And we used to somehow be able to color in sections with crayons..and I don't remember how we did that either..hmmmmm. Maybe it's time I get back to the basics..the back in the day crafts. I may just try..

Farm Girl Sunbonnet Sue with Large Hat and Basket ,High Heels...Playing Dress-Up

In the box of old patterns my friend brought to me, I couldn't help but go...oooooo,
when I saw this transfer. I'm not sure who did the wrtiting on the pattern,it's okay tho. When I trace this off,I will just ignore the writing,but I will leave it on the pattern.
I'm sure you know how to make a transfer of this pattern, but just in case..this is
my way of doing.
First,make a copy of the pattern... next,
take your transfer pencil (mine is a red Dritz pencil) and trace the design onto tracing paper..
To Transfer..simply lay the pattern on the cloth and iron on as you would any transfer.
This little pattern would also be sweet as applique..I think though, I will get pretty pillow cases with a lace edging and embroider her..but you know,I was just thinking..wouldn't she be a sweetie on a tea towel..or "cuptowel" as mama used to say..
I hope you enjoy this pattern..I know I will......

The Farm Girls, Sunbonnet Sue and Hannah...Off To Go Caroling...( Late Edition )

I'm just now getting to posting some of Do's laterst projects.
This was one of the series of her little quilt blocks..and it was for December. Little Sunbonnet Sue and her bestest ever friend Hannah were out caroling at Christmas time. Sue carried the little songbook and Hannah carried a lantern that Father had fixed for them to light their way. Their little dog,Peanut Butter and little KittyKitty went with the girls to safeguard them. Do said that Sue told her...there came a magical time for them. All the stars were out on this snowy night,almost enough to light their way..when suddenly a little bird friend joined them. Little bird apparently was a baby and the girls immediately loved him...and named him Robbie because he looked so robin like. They wondered, where he was from and how he had found them.. but then,they decided he was a Christmas miracle,and they asked him to join in the caroling..... and so they began their treck to different houses...and each time their little animal friends joind them..all lifting their voices to Heaven..and singing as only sweet innocents can sing. I would have loved for them to visit my home...and I would have loved to have heard them sing....and I wonder...my mother always told the story,that at midnight on Christmas Eve, all the animals could talk and sing their praises to the highest..and I wonder, did the girls hear them??? Oh,I hope they did.. How magical and wonderful...
As we leave our girls to the part whereas they and their little friends were invited in to warm,and to enjoy hot chocolate and fresh made whipped cream on top..wonderful german sweet chocolate cake, their little friend were also given snacks of warm milk...and treats..and little Robbie was given some of the very best baby bird food... and magically,he began to sing and chirp and sing even more.
As we leave our little friends in the kitchen of a loving home..I can only wish I was there. In that lovely sweet time, when all was well...and safe....oh,the sweetness...
